No. 20 Tech downs Wyoming

LUBBOCK – JT Toppin scored 27 points and added nine rebounds to help lead No. 20 Texas Tech to a 76-72 win over Wyoming on Sunday at United Supermarkets Arena. The Red Raiders (6-2) improved to 5-0 at home with the victory and extended the program's non-conference home winning streak to 44 games.
Texas Tech now has a pair of neutral court games up next on its schedule, starting next Sunday against LSU at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth before taking on Arkansas on Saturday, December 13 at American Airlines Center in Dallas. The Red Raiders will host their next game on Tuesday, December 16 against Northern Colorado at the USA.
LeJuan Watts contributed 19 points, four rebounds and three assists while Christian Anderson provided 15 points and five assists. The Red Raiders finished the game shooting 49.1 percent from the field but struggled beyond the arc with a season-low four 3-pointers. Watts made two 3s while Anderson and Donovan Atwell hit one each in a game where Tech was 4-for-17 after coming into the game making 11.3 per game. Atwell finished the game with seven points and four rebounds and Leon Horner added four points and four rebounds.
Leland Walker led Wyoming with a game-high 28 points after going 10-for-20 from the field and 6-of-6 at the free-throw line. The Cowboys were 13-for-13 at the free-throw line in the game and made five 3-pointers. Walker was 2-for-4 on 3s while Khaden Bennett and Uriya Rojas made one each and both finished with nine points. Wyoming shot 46.6 percent from the field and matched the Red Raiders with 33 rebounds in the game.
Tech led 38-37 at halftime but saw itself trailing early in the second half. Down 56-55, Toppin came up with an offensive rebound and putback for the lead and Atwell buried a jumper for a 61-56 lead with five minutes remaining. Toppin would score four of his 27 points in the final minute, his last bucket coming on a floater for a 73-67 advantage with 23 seconds on the clock. Watts knocked down two free throws with 15 seconds remaining and Tyeree Bryan made one with 8.2 seconds left to help seal the win.
Toppin, who was one rebound shy of his fourth double-double of the season, finished the game shooting 11-for-18 from the field and pulled down five offensive rebounds. He's now averaging 22.1 points and 11.0 rebounds for the season. Anderson has scored in double figures in a team-high seven games after going for his 15 against the Cowboys and is averaging 18.1 points and 6.9 assists per game. Â
Tech took a 38-37 lead into halftime with Toppin scoring 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting and Anderson at nine points and four assists. The Red Raiders were 9-of-11 at the free-throw line, including Anderson going 4-of-5 and Toppin making 3-of-4. Wyoming was 3-for-3 at the free-throw line and was led by Walker who had 10 points and three rebounds. At halftime, Tech had played eight players while Wyoming had run out 12. Tech was only 3-for-10 on 3-pointers at the break with Watts hitting two and scoring eight points at the break. His second gave Tech a 27-22 lead in a half with three lead changes.  Â
