
Lady Raiders welcome No. 25 Baylor on Saturday

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders come back home to face the No. 25-ranked Baylor Bears on Saturday, February 15 at 2 p.m. in the United Supermarkets Arena. Baylor leads the all-time series against Texas Tech with a 55-47 record. The Bears are currently on a 30-game win streak dating back to 2012, while last defeating the Lady Raiders in the Big 12 Tournament on March 8, 2024 by a 71-60 score.
Junior Jasmine Shavers is currently ranked 18th among other Big 12 players in scoring with 13.69 points per game in conference games only. She also ranks second among Big 12 players with an 88.9 free throw percentage in conference games, going 56-for-63 at the line. Sitting at 13th with 22 steals in Big 12 play, Shavers has totaled two 20-plus point games in conference while also averaging a team-leading 2.23 assists per game so far. Over the entire season, Shavers has recorded a team-best 22 double-figure scoring games (out of a possible 26) and 10 of those have come during Big 12 play.
The Lady Raiders are 4-4 against teams ranked No. 25 in the national polls. The last win Texas Tech got over a 25-ranked team was at home against No. 25 Texas, 68-64. All four wins against No. 25 teams have been in Lubbock. Three of the remaining four losses came at the opponent's home gym, while one loss was at home in the USA. In date order, Tech played these eight No. 25-ranked teams - 2/17/02 win vs. Wisconsin; 2/28/09 loss vs. Iowa State; 2/7/16 loss at OK State; 1/7/17 loss at K-State; 3/1/20 win vs. TCU; 1/15/22 win vs. K-State; 2/5/22 loss at K-State; and 1/18/23 win vs. Texas.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The No. 25-ranked Baylor Bears are 21-5 on the season and 11-2 in conference play so far. Currently on a five-game win streak, the Bears recently picked up key victories against No. 18 West Virginia (75-65), BYU (83-71), Houston (92-47), Cincinnati (98-59) and UCF (75-64). Their five losses were against No. 9 TCU, No. 1 UCLA, Oklahoma State, Indiana and Oregon. The Bears are averaging 80.6 points per game while only allowing 59.7 points per game. Shooting 46.1 percent from the field, Baylor also totals 43.2 rebounds per game and 19.8 assists per game, which is ranked sixth and fifth in the nation, respectively. The Bears are led by Darianna Littlepage-Buggs, who averages a double-double on the season with 14.2 points and 10.4 rebounds. In scoring, the Bears have five more players in addition to Littlepage-Buggs who average double figures each game – Aaronette Vonleh (13.8), Sarah Andrews (11.0), Jada Walker (10.9), Yaya Felder (10.5) and Jana Van Gytenbeek (10.0). In rebounding, Bella Fontleroy is second on the team with 5.9 boards per game, and Vonleh is just behind with 5.0 per game.
