Tech on the road at UCF

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders are on the road to take on the UCF Knights this Saturday, February 22 at 1 p.m. CT in Orlando, Fla. The Lady Raiders hold a 2-1 all-time record against the Knights, losing the last contest against UCF by a 69-64 score on February 10, 2024.
Texas Tech (14-14, 3-12 Big 12) has struggled this season with turnovers, averaging 17.9 per game on the year. However last game against Cincinnati, the Lady Raiders only turned the ball over six times, which is the lowest number of turnovers in a game since December 9, 2020 when they has a program-record low of two against Angelo State. In addition, the Lady Raiders shot 10-for-28 from the three (35.7%) and recorded its third game this year with double-figure 3-pointers. Their 35.7 percent from behind the arc was more than their field goal percentage at 27.4 percent (17-for-62). Tech also added 41 rebounds with 18 on the offensive side, making it the fourth time this year with 40+ rebounds and sixth time with 15+ offensive boards.
Junior Jasmine Shavers is currently ranked 17th among other Big 12 players in scoring with 14.00 points per game in conference games only. She also ranks second among Big 12 players with an 89.6 free throw percentage in conference games, going 60-for-67 at the line. Sitting at 20th with 1.47 steals per game in Big 12 play, Shavers has totaled three 20-plus point games in conference while also averaging a team-leading 2.20 assists per game so far. Over the entire season, Shavers has recorded a team-best 24 double-figure scoring games (out of a possible 28) and 12 of those have come during Big 12 play.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The UCF Knights are 9-16 overall and 2-13 in Big 12 play. Currently on a two-game losing streak coming against No. 13 Kansas State, 67-97, and Kansas, 58-63, the Knights got a couple wins in conference against Arizona State, 85-76, as well as Houston, 70-56. The Knights average 67.1 points per game while allowing opponents to score 72.3 points per game. Shooting 41.1 percent from the field, UCF averages 37.8 rebounds per game and 11.6 assists per game. They are led in scoring by three players who average double-figures on the year – Kaitlin Peterson (20.8), Hannah Gusters (12.8) and Emely Rodriguez (11.2). On the rebounding side, Achol Akot leads the Knights with 7.0 per game, followed by Gusters with 6.8.
