INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
MATCHUP: Texas Tech (5-1) vs. Utah State (2-2-1)
DATE: Sept. 14, 2025
TIME: 1 p.m.
LOCATION: John Walker Soccer Complex (Lubbock, Texas)
BY THE NUMBERS:
+52: The Red Raiders enter Sunday's match riding a 14-match home non-conference winning streak dating back to an Aug. 25, 2022 1-1 draw against New Mexico. In the 14 home match non-conference unbeaten streak, the Red Raiders have outscored opponents 56-4.
2: While putting the ball in the back of the net is the name of the game, scoring twice has been critical for the Red Raiders success as since the start of the 2022 season, the Red Raiders are now 39-0-1 (lone tie at No. 7 BYU in 2023) when scoring two goals. When you expand that mark out to the beginning of the 2021 season, Tech is 48-2-1 when scoring twice in a match.
28: Fresh off her second Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week award after scoring and assisting on a goal in the Red Raiders 2-0 win over SMU, the Red Raiders improved to 28-1-1 when Blackburn records at least one assist in a contest. The lone loss for the Red Raiders in that span was last years 2-1 heartbreaking loss to BYU in the season finale. Last Thursday, Blackburn recorded her fourth all-time match with a goal and and an assist all-time.
QUICK KICKS:
• Seeking to extend a 14-match non-conference home unbeaten streak and run the September unbeaten streak to 17-straight matches, Texas Tech returns home for a Sunday afternoon match against two-defending Mountain West Tournament Champions, Utah State.
ª The Red Raiders and Aggies of Utah State are meeting for the third-straight season. That stretch includes a 3-0 Texas Tech win over USU back in 2023 before the Aggies responded for a 2-0 win last season in Logan.
• Fresh off a two-goal performance in the Red Raiders win over New Mexico State, junior Taylor Zdrojewski was named Big 12 Co-Offensive Player of the Week, marking the second time that the striker has been named the league's OPOW.
• The brace for Zdrojewski was her third career brace and second this season. After burying a corner kick service just 16 seconds in the 70th minute, "Z" headed home her 39th and 40th career points in the 77th minute when she slotted home another service from Blackburn after a gorgeous flick on from freshman Raliegh Greason.
• The two assists for Blackburn marked the 39th and 40th of her career, as she became the sixth player in Big 12 history and the only Red Raider in program history to reach 40 career assists. Of the 30 contests where Blackburn has recorded at least one helper, the Red Raiders are now 28-1-1.
• Entering the weekend match against the Aggies of Utah State, the Red Raiders boast a 16-match unbeaten streak in September dating back to a 2022 setback to the University of Texas. The streak began with a 1-1 draw against Oklahoma State before continuing in 2023 with wins over ACU (Sept. 3), Arizona State (Sept. 10), Houston (Sept. 14), Texas (Sept. 21), Baylor (Sept. 24) and OU (Sept. 28) as well as a draw against Arizona (Sept. 7).
• Like 2023, the Red Raiders also went 6-0-1 in September in 2024 as the Red Raiders defeated ORU (Sept. 1), Oregon (Sept. 5), Utah (Sept. 19), OSU (Sept. 22), Kansas State (Sept. 26) and Houston (Sept. 29).
• The Red Raiders also drew TCU on Sept. 12 last season. Tech opened its Sept. slate last Thursday at New Mexico State with a 2-0 win. The Red Raiders all-time assist leader, Blackburn, also enters the weekend leading the country in Assists Per Game (1.17) and is the DI active leader in assists per game (0.65) and has the most active assists (40) by an active player at the DI level. Entering the weekend, Blackburn's 40 assists are nine more than Lia Godfrey of Virginia (31).
