January 12, 2026 | Women's Basketball
LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 17 Texas Tech Lady Raiders are back at the United Supermarkets Arena on Tuesday to face the Houston Cougars at 6 p.m. Texas Tech leads the all-time series against the Cougars, 44-14, winning 26 of the last 28 meetings. The Lady Raiders are on a five-game winning streak against Houston, winning their last matchup on Jan. 22, 2025 in Houston by a 62-44 score.
The Lady Raiders (18-0, 5-0 Big 12) are one of two teams in the country with 18 wins and now one of three teams, including Vanderbilt and UConn, to remain undefeated on the season. With a win against Houston, the Lady Raiders will tie the program record single-season win streak of 19 wins, which was set in the 1992-93 national championship season. Tech also has the chance to start conference play at 6-0, which hasn't been done since 2000-01. In addition, Texas Tech is the third Big 12 team all-time to start a season 18-0, joining Baylor in 2011-12 (40-0) and Nebraska in 2009-10 (30-0).
Senior Bailey Maupin was named the Big 12 Player of the Week and to the Big 12 Starting Five this week after helping Tech to road wins over West Virginia and Cincinnati. Against the Mountaineers, Maupin led the team with 27 points and a career-high four 3-points, shooting 53.3 percent from the field (8-for-15) for her team-high third 20+ scoring game of the year. Against Cincinnati, Maupin posted a 17-point day after shooting 5-for-10 from the field (.500) to total her team-leading 16th double-digit scoring game this season.
Last week against West Virginia, Denae Fritz made three 3-pointers and totaled nine points and eight rebounds on 60 percent shooting from the field (3-for-5). Against Cincinnati, Fritz had one of the best defensive games of her career, totaling a career-best of six steals with five of those coming in the first half alone. Fritz posted three-straight games with at least three 3-pointers, going a team-best 3-for-6 (.500) from behind the arc. Over the week, Fritz averaged 11.0 points per game on 54.5 percent shooting from the field (6-for-11) and 60.0 percent shooting from behind the arc (6-for-10), tying for the team-lead in three-point shooting. Fritz was second on the team averaging 6.5 rebounds per game while leading the way with seven steals.
Texas Tech has used the same starting five players in every game so far this season, helping the Lady Raiders to an 18-0 start. Those five consistent starts are Jalynn Bristow, Fritz, Maupin, Gemma Núñez and Sarengbe Sanogo.
