No. 17 Lady Raiders remain undefeated

LUBBOCK, Texas – Senior Bailey Maupin recorded a 19-point performance as the No. 17 Texas Tech Lady Raiders earned a 71-59 win over the Houston Cougars on Tuesday night at the United Supermarkets Arena.
Maupin totaled 19 points for her team-leading 11th straight double-figure scoring game and was a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line to lead Texas Tech (19-0, 6-0 Big 12) over Houston (6-11, 0-6 Big 12). Maupin added five rebounds, three steals and a team-best four assists on the night.
Junior Jalynn Bristow tallied 14 points with a team-best two 3-pointers. She also led the way in rebounds (7), steals (5) and blocks (2). Denae Fritz posted back-to-back double-digit scoring games with 10 points on 80.0 percent shooting from the field (4-for-5). Fritz totaled six boards and three steals, the eighth time with three or more takeaways in a game.
The Lady Raiders forced 27 Houston turnovers, while holding the Cougars to 36.7 percent from the field (18-for-49) and 28.6 percent from behind the arc (4-for-14). Tech shot 45.6 percent on the night (26-for-57) and added six 3-pointers in the game. In addition, the Scarlet and Black recorded 16 steals against Houston, the second most in a game this season.
Tech began the game on a 5-0 run thanks to a three from Fritz and a layup by Bristow. Houston scored its first field goal with a layup at the 7:38 mark before Bristow got a steal and fastbreak layup to lead 7-2. Houston went on a 4-0 run to cut its deficit to one before the media timeout. Tech responded with a 7-0 run, highlighted by an and-one opportunity from Gemma Núñez and a triple from Bristow. The Cougars scored three more points in the quarter, but Núñez scored a layup at the buzzer to give Tech the 16-9 advantage after one.
The Lady Raiders got a steal from Maupin, who took it down the court for a layup. Houston answered with a 3-pointer, but Tech scored the next seven points on layups by Sarengbe Sanogo and a three from Sidney Love to force a Houston timeout with the 25-12 lead. With 5:18 left in the half, Maupin got fouled on a 3-point attempt, then made all three free throws for a 30-19 advantage. Houston followed this up with an 8-2 run to make it 32-27. Jada Malone stopped the Cougars momentum with a layup, but both teams would trade points back-and-forth to follow. With 33 seconds left, Adlee Blacklock hit a three for a 7-point lead. Bristow forced a steal with 4 seconds left, then chucked it at the basket from well beyond half court to make the buzzer beater and give Tech the 40-30 lead going into the half.
Tech didn't score until the 8:30 mark of the third quarter when Maupin made a reverse layup. Fritz got a layup of her own on the next possession to make it 44-32. The Cougars would go on an 8-0 run in response, making it a four-point game, but Maupin hit a 3-pointer to extend the Tech lead. Then, Maupin scored a layup right after to make it 49-40. Both teams made a couple free throws, before Snudda Collins scored a layup after Fritz forced a steal. Tech and Houston traded points to end the quarter, with Fritz scoring a tough basket for the 57-46 advantage after three.
Houston began the fourth quarter scoring seven of the first 11 points before the media timeout. With 4:09 left in the game, Houston added a free throw before Tech was able to score its first points in three and a half minutes of play when Collins connected with two free throws. The Cougars followed with two free throws of their own, then Maupin converted a successful and-one play for three points. Both teams traded points, with Tech making free throws at the end of the game to secure the 71-59 victory.
