Tech travels to Utah for game against BYU

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 19 Texas Tech Lady Raiders head to Provo, Utah for a game against the BYU Cougars on Jan. 21 at 7 PM MST/8 PM CT in the Marriott Center. Texas Tech leads the all-time series against BYU, 3-2, winning the last meeting in Lubbock on Jan. 18, 2025 by a 70-65 score.
Senior Bailey Maupin is having a career season - leading the Lady Raiders (19-1, 6-1 Big 12) in points per game (15.5), field goals (99), free throws (70) and three pointers (42). Five times this season Maupin has tied her career-high in threes with four in a game. Currently on a team-leading streak of 12 games in double figures and with at least one made 3-pointer, Maupin also leads the way with 18 games totaling double-digit scoring. Last week, she was named the Big 12 Player of the Week and one of the USBWA National Players of the Week for the first time in her career.
Maupin has etched her name in the record book among many Lady Raider greats. Maupin now ranks sixth all-time in career scoring with 1,617 points. She is 28 points away from tying for fifth all time with Sheryl Swoopes. Maupin also just tied head coach Krista Gerlich in three-point attempts with 528, which is tied for fourth in program history. Maupin is third and fifth, respectively, in free throws (427) and free throw attempts (513), while she sits at fifth in free-throw percentage (.832).
Texas Tech has made six or more 3-pointers over the last six games, tallying 53 made threes during that span. In the last game against K-State, Tech went 9-for-20 from behind the arc (.450), led by Bailey Maupin with four of those. The Lady Raiders tied a season-best of 13 threes against Arizona on Jan. 3. Texas Tech is ranked 37th nationally in three-point percentage (.354) and are making 8.0 3-pointers per game, which is fifth in the Big 12.
The Lady Raiders are one of the best teams in the country on defense. Tech ranks 11th in the nation and second in the Big 12, holding teams to 54.2 points per game. The Lady Raiders are holding teams to 24.7 percent from behind the arc as well as 33.5 percent from the field to rank ninth and sixth nationally in those respective categories. The Lady Raiders' 5.6 blocks per game is good for 15th nationally, while they are forcing 20.55 turnovers per game to check in at third in the Big 12.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The BYU Cougars are 14-4 overall and 3-3 in conference play. The Cougars have key wins over Virginia Tech, Washington State, UCF, Arizona State and Houston. Their recent losses came against Baylor, Arizona and TCU. BYU is averaging 72.4 points per game and only allowing 59.8 opponent points per game. Shooting 41.1 percent from the field, the Cougars also average 43.8 rebounds per game and 15.5 assists per game. There are three players who average double-figure scoring on the season – Delaney Gibb (16.9), Olivia Hamlin (11.9) and Marya Hudgins (10.3). On the rebounding side, Lara Rohkohl leads the team with 7.1 per game, followed by Arielle Mackey-Williams with 6.8 and Bolanle Yussef with 6.2.
