Red Raiders sweep ORU in doubleheader

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 74-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders did not drop a single set on Thursday afternoon in a doubleheader against the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles as the Scarlet and Black picked up two 4-0 sweeps at the McLeod Tennis Center.
Texas Tech (8-4) opened the first match of the day with a dominant doubles point over Oral Roberts (6-10). At court two, the duo of Niksa Arsic and Ludovico Vaccari defeated Christian Pensavalle and Pigus Reklevicius by a 6-1 score. Then, Tyler Stewart and Joseph Patton clinched the doubles point with a victory against Rodrigo Guijarro and Jack Berry at court three, 6-2.
In singles, the Red Raiders kept up the winning when Thiago Guglieri defeated Guijarro at court four, 6-1, 3-0 (retired) to make it 2-0. No. 119-ranked Thomas Van Den Dooren extended the Tech lead when he beat Reklevicius at court five by a 6-1, 6-1 score. Clinching the 4-0 win was Felipe Pagnacco at court three with a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Luis Marcos Bonifasi.
When the match was won, Arsic was ahead of Ricardo Filho at court one, 6-4, 2-0, while Vaccari was leading Parv Nage, 6-2, 1-2, at court two. At court six, Bautista Leguizamon was two points away from winning his match over Berry, 6-3, 5-0.
In the second match of the day against Oral Roberts, the Red Raiders once again came out on top in doubles. Arsic and Stewart paired up at court two to defeat Reklevicius and Cayden Cheek with a bagel, 6-0. At court one, Sebastian Abboud and Guglieri picked up a win over Berry and Ricardo Filho by a 6-3 score to clinch the doubles point and 1-0 lead.
Pagnacco recorded his second singles win of the day with a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Reklevicius at court four. No. 119-ranked Van Den Dooren also added his second win against Oral Roberts when he beat Berry at court five, 6-2, 6-4. Clinching the match was Leguizamon at court six with his first career singles win after taking down Pensavalle, 6-2, 7-5.
At court one, Vaccari was ahead of Filho, 7-6 (5), 3-0, when his match went unfinished. In addition, Stewart was leading Nage at court two, 6-4, 3-2, and Guglieri was ahead of Bonifasi at court three, 6-3, 5-5, when their matches went unfinished.
Next up, the Red Raiders head to Santa Barbara, Calif., to take on UNC Wilmington and UC Santa Barbara on March 6-7.
