LUBBOCK, Texas - Following the opening round of the NCAA Lubbock Regional, the ninth-ranked Red Raiders sit in fourth place heading into Friday's second round of play at the Rawls Course in Lubbock.
Texas Tech turned in a 6-under 278 for the day as head coach Greg Sands' team trails the leading Longhorns by five strokes while No. 35 Houston sits in second at 10-under and 48th-ranked Duke Blue Devils in third.
"I think the guys are a little bit disappointed, but at the same time I told them `hey it's just a start.'" Sands said. "They aren't handing out trophies right now. This is where this tournament starts is on day two and day three. I've been doing it a while and know that this is when everyone is going to feel a little bit more(pressure) and it's going to get tougher. This tournament is just beginning."
