Jolan Cailleau begins singles play on Wednesday followed by Connor Curry and Bjorn Thomson in doubles action on Thursday.
ATHENS, Ga. – Jolan Cailleau, Connor Curry and Bjorn Thomson are set to compete in the 2017 NCAA Singles and Doubles Tennis Championships which start Wednesday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the University of Georgia campus.
"The boys are really excited to get back on the courts and compete," Texas Tech head coach Brett Masi said. "We've had a solid few weeks of practice to prepare, and I know the boys are itching to get back out there. It's a great accomplishment to be here in Athens, and the boys are looking to make the most of the opportunity."
Cailleau is ranked at a season's best No. 21 in the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings and is the ninth player in program history to appear in the NCAA Singles Championships. He has won eight of his last 11 decisions sparked by five victories over fellow Top 30 opponents dating back to March 14.
Cailleau will meet No. 19 Brandon Holt of Southern Cal in Wednesday's Round of 64 scheduled for 8 a.m. CT. He knocked off Holt by a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 margin during Texas Tech's narrow 4-3 defeat at No. 7 USC earlier this season.
Texas Tech has been represented in the NCAA Singles Championships during 13 of the last 14 seasons going back to the 2004 season. The Red Raiders best finish at the event came courtesy of former two-time ITA All-American Felipe Soares who made a run to the quarterfinals in 2015.
Curry and Thomson hold a No. 18 Oracle/ITA ranking and take on No. 24 Jai Corbett and Henrik Korsgaard of Virginia Tech in Thursday's Round of 32. The duo has secured a 14-6 record and tucked away five ranked wins during dual match action.
Texas Tech has been represented in nine of the last 11 NCAA Doubles Championships since 2007. The Red Raiders legacy is fueled by Raony Carvalho and Gonzalo Escobar coupled with Hugo Dojas and Soares who were the NCAA Runner-Up in 2012 and 2015, respectively.
