April 03, 2019 | Track and Field
Red Raiders also sending athletes to Arizona, Wes Texas A&M.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech will split its squad into three for its fourth meet week of the outdoor season. The primary – and largest – group will head to Texas A&M for The Reveille, while smaller parties will travel to meets hosted by Arizona and West Texas A&M.
Â
The bulk of Tech's top-ranked men's team will compete in College Station, including nine of the 11 Red Raiders currently holding individual top-10 national rankings. The women's team, which is the highest-ranking program in the Mountain Region, will travel three of their top-10 individuals.
Â
Tech's field competitors lead the way across the board. Duke Kicinski's number-one ranked discus mark of 207'-10" (63.34m) contributes a team-high 33.86 points to the Red Raiders' TFRI rating of 366.11. Another 2019 mark carrying a significant boost is the school-record 4x1 time of 38.87. Keion Sutton, Divine Oduduru, Andrew Hudson and Jacolby Shelton combined to run the program-leading mark last weekend at the Texas Relays. A 10.17 100m from Andrew Hudson and fourth- and sixth-ranked triple jumps from Jequan Hogan and Charles Brown were other big marks turned in in Austin.
Â
Two more field marks from the Relays benefitted the women's team's ranking of 18th. These came from pole vaulters Chloe Wall and Chinne Okoronkwo. Wall, who has shown tremendous growth in her sophomore campaign, ranks 15th in the country in the vault after clearing 13'-9.75" (4.21m) at the Relays. Okoronkwo, who ranks 13th in the vault, also contributed a top-20 triple jump mark of 42'-9.75" (13.05m) while in Austin.
Â
MULTIS IN TUSCON
Associate head coach James Thomas will take four combined events athletes to Arizona for the Jim Click Multi-Events. The group will include Big 12 champion Axel Hubert in the decathlon, who set the school record in the heptathlon in his indoor debut for Tech. Cole Whatley will also compete attached after spending all but the Big 12 Championships unattached during indoor. Rose Njoku will do the heptathlon after scoring at Big 12s, and she will be joined by Tiara Williams. It will be the outdoor multis debut for all four this season.
Â
WTAMU GROUP
Tech will have several members of its distance crew, as well as a thrower, to West Texas A&M. The group will be led by Susanne Sides, who is the team leader in the 5k and 10k.
