Teeter Nets Two as Tech Draws with Oklahoma

Charlotte Teeter scores Texas Tech’s first two goals of the season in draw with the Sooners.
NORMAN, Okla. – Charlotte Teeter scored once on a penalty and once on a header as Texas Tech's first two goals of the season pulled the Red Raiders (0-1-2) even with Oklahoma (0-1-1) Friday night in Norman.
"I think the team grew again," said head coach Tom Stone. "There are no moral victories here – we're not happy with a 2-2 draw – however, given all the young players out there and the position we were in I was pleased with what I saw. Once we got rolling, I saw signs of of what this team can be."
Teeter's eighth and ninth career goals each came with Tech trailing. Her first – the team's first of the season – came in the 70th minute after the Red Raiders found themselves fighting for an equalizer after a 42nd-minute goal by the hosts. The Red Raiders forced their way onto the Sooner defense, asserting themselves with multiple threatening crosses and shot opportunities. With another ball bouncing around in the box, an Oklahoma defender hit the ball with her hand just before Briley Weatherford knocked it into the net. Teeter stepped to the line and finished right side for the goal.
"Right as the ball was going in, the ref called the penalty," said Stone. "Now the pressure is on Charlotte to come back after we had scored and get the one that counted, and she buried her PK."
Despite launching into another onslaught while searching for the lead, the Red Raiders surrendered a penalty to the Sooners 11 minutes later. Oklahoma buried it, leaving Tech with nine minutes to attempt to pull even again. Teeter was up for it.
"I just knew we weren't going to lose," Teeter said. "I wanted a win, so obviously we didn't get the result we wanted, but I knew we weren't going to lose. I just kept telling my teammates that and we kept working hard. It was going to come for us."
With just over a minute and a half remaining on the clock, Teeter rushed forward from her center mid position to get her head on a Kirsten Davis cross. She finished it, pulling her team level once more. It is her second time scoring an equalizer in the final two minutes of the game; she was responsible for the tying header at Texas last season.
While Teeter's goal in Austin last season led to an overtime winner, Friday's score would be the last for either squad. The two would split points after 20 minutes of overtime.
"It was another chance for the young team to fold," said Stone. "But we actually went up another notch. I don't know how many miles Charlotte ran today, but our six ran all the way down the field and got a cross from our best forward and headed it in to tie the game. It was in the waning moments of the game, which shows real character, from Charlotte of course, but just from the whole team."
After two weeks of traveling, the Red Raiders will return home for a Friday night matchup with West Virginia on Oct. 9. The game will be streamed on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.

No quit, but no winner this time.
