Red Raiders Begin Fall Campaign in Midland

MIDLAND, Texas – The Texas Tech men's tennis team is set to begin the 2020-21 season by participating in The Racquet Club 2020 Collegiate Invitational in Midland this weekend.
In their first of 10 scheduled events for the fall semester, Tech will have five players represented in the UTR event, which begins on Friday, Sept. 11. The appearance will be the 11th for the Red Raiders in the last 12 years.
Junior Franco Ribero and Sophomore Reed Collier are set to compete for the second-consecutive season following a quarterfinal berth for the two in singles play a year ago. Ribero also reached the final round in doubles with former Red Raider Jackson Cobb in 2019.
Sophomore Connor Johnson and senior Ilgiz Valiev will make their Midland debut following a 2019-20 campaign in which the two combined for 17 solo victories, including a perfect 5-0 mark for Johnson.
Dimitrios Azoidis will make his debut in the Scarlet and Black following a transfer from Abilene Christian. Azoidis was the 2019 Southland Conference Freshman of the Year and has recorded 25 wins over his first two seasons.
