Men’s Tennis Travels to Dallas to Face SMU

The Red Raiders and Mustangs will clash at 1 p.m. Saturday
LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Texas Tech Red Raiders men's tennis team travels to Dallas Saturday afternoon for a dual match against the SMU Mustangs. First serve is set for 1 p.m. from Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex.

LAST TIME OUT:
The Red Raiders opened the 2022 spring slate in style last Thursday downing Abilene Christian 6-1 before sweeping UTRGV 7-0. Tech received big performances up and down the roster in both matches, including a pair of big debuts. True freshman Piotr Pawlak stepped up big for the Red Raiders, recording a perfect 3-0 record. Pawlak teamed with Franco Ribero to secure a critical doubles point for his team, before cruising to a pair of straight set singles victories. Olle Wallin also starred for the Red Raiders, using a fast start to record a 6-0, 6-2 victory in Tech's No. 1 slot against UTRGV. Dimitrios Azoidis went a perfect 4-0 on opening day. Azoidis worked with Ilgiz Valiev to seal the doubles point for Tech, before breaking off for a pair of singles wins.
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS:
SMU also enters Saturday's matchup undefeated. The Mustangs opened the season with a pair of victories over Prairie View A&M, before sealing a victory over Big 10 foe Purdue, 4-3 last weekend. Sophomores Julian Steinhausen and Liam Krall paired up to earn the Mustangs only doubles victor of the match. Both Steinhausen and Krall won singles matches for SMU. Sophomore Adam Neff was the only player to win in straight sets last weekend, earning a 6-3, 6-3 win.
UP NEXT:
The Red Raiders hit the road for the ITA Kickoff Weekend hosted by Texas A&M next Saturday-Monday. Tech will face three ranked opponents: No. 8 Texas A&M, No. 16 Arizona and No. 25 UCLA.
