The Big 12 Championship will be hosted by Iowa State Feb. 25-26
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech track & field team prepare for its final regular-season indoor meet ahead of the Big 12 Championship hosting the inaugural Jarvis Scott Open Friday afternoon at the Sports Performance Center.
Meet Schedule
The day begins at 3 p.m. with the women's weight throw and 1000m final. The last projected events are the 4x400 relays which will end around 9:30 p.m.
In The Polls
In the fourth installment of the USTFCCCA Indoor Rankings released Monday afternoon, the men's team was slotted No. 4, while the women's team moved to No. 6. Last week, the men were ranked No. 3 as the women were ranked No. 7.
Last Time Out
The Red Raiders hosted the two-day Texas Tech Shootout meet. The meet saw three school records go down as Rosemary Chukwuma topped the 60m list, while Demisha Roswell etched the No. 1 mark in the 60m hurdles Friday night. On Saturday, Moad Zahafi broke the school's 1000m record, a time that stood atop the list for 35 years. For his efforts, he was named the Big 12 Athlete of the Week.
On The Lookout
Despite most of the team using this week as an opportunity to rest, a few Red Raiders will be looking to bump their marks to secure a better spot at the national meet in March. Seasons Usual is currently 19th in the NCAA with her best throw of the season being 21.47m which she's hit twice. In the pole vault, Chloe Wall has topped out at 4.28m and is 20th in the NCAA.
Over to the men, Gabe Oladipo enters the meet 10th in the country, tossing the weight at 21.91m which leads the Big 12. Marco Vilca will look to crack inside the top 20 as he sits 22nd this year with a season-best time of 1:48.19.
