Texas Tech tees off its second tournament this spring at 8 a.m. Monday morning in Houston
LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 25 Texas Tech women's golf team, fresh of a runner-up finish last week to start its spring slate, will return to the links Monday morning when the Red Raiders tee off at the ICON Invitational hosted at the Golf Club of Houston.
The Red Raiders are one of six top-25 schools in the 15-team field this week, joining the likes of No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 15 USC, No. 17 Ole Miss, No. 19 Texas A&M and No. 21 TCU. The field also includes four other teams ranked among the top-50 of the Golfweek Magazine poll, including No. 29 Illinois, No. 37 Michigan State, No. 39 Purdue and No. 49 North Texas.
Head coach JoJo Robertson's squad topped both Oklahoma State and Illinois this past week as part of a runner-up finish at the Columbia Classic hosted just outside of Orlando. Florida. No. 26 Virginia Tech, which is not in this week's field, edged the Red Raiders by a single stroke for the tournament crown, giving Texas Tech its second runner-up finish this season and its fourth time in the top five.
Amy Taylor combined to shoot even-par to record a runner-up finish on the individual leaderboard, marking her highest showing over her collegiate career. It was the second top-five finish of the season for Taylor, who continues to lead the Red Raiders with a 71.6 stroke average over all six events this season.
Taylor will be back in the lineup this week alongside junior Anna Dong, sophomore Gala Dumez and freshmen Chelsea Romas and Chiara Horder. Dumez, who was tied for eighth at the Columbia Classic for her team-leading third top-10 finish this season, has compiled a 72.1 stroke average of her own followed by Dong at 72.3 over her five events.
The Red Raiders will play 36 holes Monday and then a final 18 Tuesday to wrap the two-day, 54-hole event that is hosted by the University of Houston. Texas Tech will be paired with both Illinois and Michigan State over Monday's first two rounds, which begins with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
