Red Raiders will look to build off first team title of the season when play tees off Friday in Arizona
LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 23 Texas Tech women's golf team will look to build off its first tournament title of the season starting Friday when the Red Raiders tee off at the Mountain View Collegiate hosted at Mountain View Golf Club in Tucson, Arizona.
The 54-hole, three-day event concludes a week-long Spring Break visit to Arizona where the Red Raiders have played several of the state's top courses, including the Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, the site of this year's NCAA Championships.
The trip concludes with this weekend's Mountain View Collegiate, which annually boasts a challenging field full of eventual NCAA Regional participants. Backed by an eventual LPGA Tour standout in Kim Kaufman, the Red Raiders are a two-time winner of the event after securing victories in back-to-back years in 2012 and 2013, while also sharing the team title in 2010.
This will be Texas Tech's first visit back to the event since that 2013 title as the Red Raiders will be the fifth-highest ranked school in a 15-team field that also features No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 7 San Jose State, No. 10 Florida and No. 12 Arkansas. The Red Raiders will also face fellow Big 12 counterparts TCU, ranked 27th in the latest Golfweek poll, Iowa State, Oklahoma and co-host Kansas State.
Head coach JoJo Robertson will send a similar lineup as she used in Texas Tech's dominating performance at the Trinity Forest Invitational, inserting junior Anna Dong to join senior Amy Taylor, sophomore Gala Dumez and freshmen Chiara Horder and Libby Fleming. Fellow freshman Kylee Loewe will also participate as an individual.
Dumez and Horder paved the way for the Red Raiders a little over a week ago in Dallas where Texas Tech claimed its 16th title under Robertson after besting the rest of the field by an impressive 14 strokes. The two underclassmen closed the event tied for fourth individually at 2-over-par overall followed by Taylor in a tie for 18th.
Texas Tech will tee off at 10 a.m. CT Friday morning to kick off the tournament. Live scoring will be available throughout the weekend at BirdieFire.com.
