
Red Raiders set for Big 12 Indoor Championships

The two-day meet begins Friday morning at 10 am with the multis
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech track and field team is set to host the 2023 Big 12 Indoor Championships Friday through Saturday inside the Sports Performance Center.
It will be the third time Tech hosts conference indoor meet (2019, 2021).
The Tech men will be seeking their third indoor title overall – claimed consecutive titles in 2018-19. Last season, the group scored the second-most points in program history, totaling 155 points. The men have finished second that last three meets.
Last season, Tech produced 11 individual event winners as returner Jacolby Shelton was named the Highest Point Scorer of the meet.
Returners on this season's roster that claimed an event include Shelton (60m, 200m), Rosemary Chukwuma (60m), Vashaun Vascianna (60m hurdles) and Ruta Lasmane (triple jump).
Rankings
Both TTU teams have remained in the top-15 of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings.
Monday afternoon, the men stayed at No. 3 – have not dropped out of the top-3 all season long. Meanwhile, the women moved up one spot to No. 14.
As far as the Big 12 goes, four men's teams find themselves in the top-25, which includes three in the top-10 in No. 5 Texas and No. 6 Oklahoma State. Oklahoma sits at No. 23. On the women's side, Texas comes in as the top-ranked team in the nation while the Oklahoma State women are No. 23.

One the Look Out
The Tech men will have a loaded fields when it comes to the 60m and 60m hurdles. Six Red Raiders are entered to run in the 60m this weekend while five go in the 60m hurdles. Caleb Dean enters the 60m with a seed time of 6.62 and a time of 7.64 in the hurdles. Freshman Antoine Andrews enters the hurdles with a time of 7.61.
In the high jump, the men have three Red Raiders that will look to finish high in the standings in Omamuyovwi Erhire, Caleb Wilborn and Kaithon McDonald. Meanwhile, Chris Welch is entered in both the triple and long jump.
The men's pole vault is strong as ever with five Red Raiders in the mix. Zach Bradford enters as the favorite with his No. 2 mark this year of 5.83m (19-1 ½).
Over on the women's side, expect big performances from Rosemary Chukwuma and Demisha Roswell in the sprints. Chukwuma (60m, 200m) and Roswell (60m hurdles, 60m) will each double up this weekend. Chukwuma enters the meet with a time of 7.11 and holds the meet record at 7.17 – won the 2022 title. Roswell, a hurdles specialist, enters the meet with a time of 7.98.
In the triple jump, Onaara Obamuwagun looks to improve her season mark of 13.38m (43-10- ¾) as Anne-Suzanna Fosther-Katta makes her Red Raider debut after competing in several meets unattached.
