
Throws highlight day one of Masked Rider Open

Roberson’s last PB discus mark came in April of 2022 in College Station
LUBBOCK, Texas – The throws crew launched day one of the Masked Rider Open Friday afternoon coming away with three event winners.
Devin Roberson and Jacob Mechler began the day for Tech in the discus as they both set new PB marks on their final throws. Roberson registered a mark of 59.13m (194-0) to come away in first. It was the first time since April of last year in which he saw a discus PB mark come his way. Meanwhile, Mechler went 55.39m (181-8) as he finished in third.
On the women's side, Malin Smith led the way. Smith dug in a mark of 54.96m (180-4) on her second attempt to place first. Smith also went on to place second in the shot put at 15.42m (50-7.25).

- Decathletes Joe Keys and Cole Omlin competed in both the discus and shot put. Each hit PB marks in the discus as Omlin registered at 41.44.m (135-11) and Keys at 38.60m (126-8).
- Keys hit an outdoor PB in the shot put 12.82m (42-0.75). Omlin competed for the first time outdoors in the event.
- Baylee Thompson placed 5th in the shot put with a mark of 13.29m (43-7.25).
