Tech travels to Austin for 95th Texas Relays

Texas Tech hits the road for the next four weekends
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech track and field team heads down to Austin for the 95th Texas Relays that take place Wednesday through Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Tech will get an early look at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships site which take place in Austin June 7-10.
Joe Keys will commence the meet for Tech as the decathlon starts Wednesday morning beginning with the 100m dash at 11:00 a.m. The remaining four events that day will be the long jump, shot put, high jump and 400m.
Last Time Out
The Red Raiders hosted their first outdoor home meet of the year this past weekend, the Masked Rider Open. Friday's throws portion of the meet saw Devin Roberson take the discus event as he threw a PB 59.13m (194-0) on his final throw. It was the first time since April of last year in which he saw a discus PB mark come his way.
Saturday afternoon, Sylvia Schulz and Oskar Edlund dropped some serious PB times in the 400 hurdles as they both made their outdoor season debut. Schulz clocked in at 57.22 for the second-fastest time in Tech history. Edlund crossed the finish line with a time of 50.38.
2022 Texas Relays
Tech continued its annual success at the relays winning some major "Section A" events last season. The men's side saw three wins comes their way as Courtney Lindsey took the 200m (20.20, 3.2w), Malik Metivier was the 400 hurdles champ (49.15) and Chris Welch claimed the triple jump at 16.25m (53-3 ¾).
On the women's side, Kayli Johnson won the shot put with a throw of 17.62m (57-9 ¾), while Seasons Usual claimed the discus with a throw of 58.10m (190-7).
On The Lookout
Several Red Raiders who competed at the NCAA Indoor Championships will look to make their outdoor debut in Austin. The 60m NCAA champion, Terrence Jones will look to go in the 200m and a 4x100relay. National runners-up Zach Bradford (pole vault) and Caleb Dean (60m hurdles). Dean will see action for the first time outside as he goes in the 400 hurdles. Bradford opened his outdoor campaign last week, but the competition took place indoors due to high winds.
