The Red Raiders host their final home meet of the year this weekend
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech track and field is set to host its final home meet of the outdoor season, the Corky/Crofoot Shootout, Friday through Saturday at the Terry Linda and Fuller Track Complex.
Saturday at 1 p.m. on the track, Tech will honor 37 seniors from the men's and women's program.
The throws portion (discus) of the meet begins Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. taking place right off 4th street, next to the National Ranching Heritage Center (3121 4th St, Lubbock, TX 79409).
Last Time Out
Tech traveled a strong but limited group to Waco for the Michael Johnson Invitational. During that meet, Caleb Dean, who leads the nation in the 400m hurdles, debuted in the 110 hurdles for Tech and placed second in the finals with a time of 13.50. When it comes to the NCAA D-I field, Dean is the only hurdler inside the top-11 in both events.
Meanwhile, Demisha Roswell clocked in a SB time of 12.84 in the 100 hurdles to put her tied for No. 6 in the country.
Rankings
In the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings released Monday afternoon, the Texas Tech men stayed at No. 2, while the women jumped into the top-25 for the first time this outdoor season, check in at No. 22. For the men, it marked the second-straight week at No. 2.
On The Lookout
This will be the final tune-up for the Red Raiders as they'll get a week off before heading to Norman for the Big 12 Outdoor Championships May 12-14. The men's 4x100 team of Adam Clayton, Courtney Lindsey, Don'Dre Swint and Terrence Jones will look to improve on their time of 38.60 which is currently No. 3 in the nation.
Over on the jumps side, Ruta Lasmane and Anne-Suzzana Fosther-Katta have been entered to go in the triple jump. Both have yet to debut this outdoor season – Lasmane did not compete indoors. Last weekend up the roast at West Texas A&M, Devin Roberson heaved the discus 59.66m (195-9) for a new PB. He'll look to improve on that as that mark currently sits No. 18 in the country.
