
Red Raiders prepare for Big 12 Outdoor Championships

The Texas Tech men will look to defend their 2023 indoor title from February
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech track and field team travels to Norman, Okla., for the 2023 Big 12 Outdoor Championships taking place Friday through Sunday. It's the first time since 2019 that OU hosts the conference outdoor meet.
Championship Notes
The Tech men will seeking their fifth outdoor title in program history (2005, 2014, 2018 and 2019), while the women will be looking to claim their first outdoor trophy. Each of the men's titles have come under head coach Wes Kittley, who is in his 24th season leading the Red Raiders.
Day one will begin at the crack of dawn as Matthew Maki competes in the 10k at 7:45 am CT. Just a few hours later, Joe Keys and Cole Omlin represent TTU in the decathlon with the first event beginning at 11 am (100m). Two finals in the field events will be contested Friday – the hammer and javelin throw. Konner Wood and Chris Samaniego headline the men's hammer throw at 2:00 pm, while Garrett Wade and Isabel Velasco compete in the javelin.

On day two, the decathlon picks back up at 10 am starting with the 100m hurdles and ends with the 1500m at 4:30 pm. Prelims Saturday include the 1500m, 100m and 110m hurdles, 400m, 100m, 800m, 400m hurdles and 200m. Over on the field side of things, four finals will be played out – high/long jump, women's pole vault and shot put.
