Red Raiders fall in Waco

WACO, Texas – The Red Raiders lost 4-1 to No. 27 Baylor on Thursday at the Hurd Tennis Center.Â
Coming out strong, Texas Tech (8-12) captured the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Niksa Arsic, in his first doubles match, had instant chemistry with teammate, Olle Wallin. They defeated the Baylor (17-7) duo, 6-4, to tie the doubles score at one-a-piece. It came down to a thrilling finish between Reed Collier/Takeyasu Sekiguchi and Devin Badenhorst/Luc Koenig, with the Tech pairing getting the win in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (1). Collier and Sekiguchi are now 4-2 in dual matches.
The freshman Arsic gave No. 88 Badenhorst all he could handle in the first set on court three, but fell short in a tiebraker, 7-6 (4). Badenhorst used the momentum to win the second, 6-3, giving Baylor the team lead, 3-1.Â
On court one, the match between No. 56 Wallin and No. 50 Tadeas Paroulek was as advertised. Paroulek started hot with a 6-3 set one victory, but Wallin fought back with a 6-2 win in the following set. Things were all tied up in the third, 2-2, before the match went unfinished.
Sekiguchi was the only other Red Raider to take a set from the Bears. Losing 2-6 in the first, he edged out Marko Miladinovic in the second set, 6-4, on court six. The match went unfinished before a point was earned in the third set.
Texas Tech is back home at the McLeod Tennis Center at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 30, to take on the Texas Longhorns.
