
Lady Raiders on the road to Kansas

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders head to Lawrence, Kan., to face the Kansas Jayhawks this Wednesday, January 29 at 6:30 p.m. at Allen Fieldhouse. Texas Tech leads the all-time series against Kansas, 26-16, snapping a four-game losing streak to the Jayhawks last season on January 6, 2024 by a 73-64 score.
Last game against the Oklahoma State Cowgirls, the Lady Raiders (14-8, 3-6 Big 12) were a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line. This was the first time since December 9, 2015 that the Lady Raiders shot 100 percent from the free throw line (6-for-6 vs. Idaho). Texas Tech has not shot 100 percent from the free throw line with 10 or more made free throws since at least the 2008-09 season.
Boasting a team-leading seven 20-plus point games this season, junior Bailey Maupin has shown out in conference play so far. Averaging a team-leading 15.7 points per game in Big 12 play, Maupin has totaled four 20-plus point games, which is ranks eighth among Big 12 players, and six double-figure scoring games in conference play. She currently ties for 11th among other Big 12 players in scoring during conference play and she is sixth in free throw percentage with 86.8 percent free throw shooting.
Maupin and Jasmine Shavers are the two leading scorers for the Lady Raiders in the second-consecutive season so far. Shavers leads the team with 14.5 points per game followed by Maupin's 14.0 points per game. In addition, Shavers has scored a team-best 319 points this year and Maupin is just behind with 308 points. The juniors account for almost 50 percent of the team's total scoring (43.3 percent) and account for 55.6 percent of the team's free throws with 163 made (Maupin with 83, Shavers with 80).
In the last four games, both Denae Fritz and Loghan Johnson have been heating up. Sitting just behind Tech's two leading scorers in those three games, Fritz has averaged 9.5 points per game while Johnson averaged 6.9 points per game. During these past four games, Johnson has shot 10-for-15 from the field (66.7 percent) while 69.2 percent of Fritz' field goals have been from beyond the arc (13- for-32 FG; 9-for-24 from three).
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The Kansas Jayhawks are 13-7 overall and 3-6 in Big 12 play so far this season. Kansas has key wins over Arizona State, Oklahoma State and Penn State, while recently falling to Utah, Arizona and Colorado. As a team, the Jayhawks average 67.8 points per game and are giving up 64.4 points per game. Shooting 41.9 percent from the field, Kansas totals 32.9 rebounds per game and 11.4 assists per game. They are led in scoring by both S'Mya Nichols with 20.8 points per game as well as Elle Evans with 14.4 points per game. On the rebounding side, Regan Williams leads the team with 5.4 per game followed by Nadria Eltayeb with 4.3.
