
Lady Raiders prepared to take on Cincinnati

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders are looking to fuel the last quarter of their season against the Cincinnati Bearcats on Wednesday, February 19 at 6 p.m. in the United Supermarkets Arena. Cincinnati is 2-0 all-time against the Lady Raiders, earning both of those wins last season when they joined the Big 12 for the first time.
The Lady Raiders (14-13, 3-11 Big 12) are preparing to defend their home court against the Bearcats following their defeat to the No. 25 Baylor Bears, 66-60. In that game, the junior duo of Bailey Maupin and Jasmine Shavers combined for 25 points.
In two of the last three games, the Lady Raiders have shot above 40 percent from the field. Against Baylor, Texas Tech went 22-for-54 from the field (.407) and added seven 3-pointers. In the first half alone, the Lady Raiders shot 57.7 percent from the field (15-for-26) and 75 percent from three (6-for-8). They scored 23 points in the first quarter of the game, which is the first time scoring 20+ points in the first quarter since November 29, 2024 against Gonzaga. It was also the 25th time this season the team has scored 20+ points in a period.
Shavers is currently ranked 21st among other Big 12 players in scoring with 13.43 points per game in conference games only. She also ranks second among Big 12 players with an 89.2 free throw percentage in conference games, going 58-for-65 at the line. Sitting at 17th with 1.57 steals per game in Big 12 play, Shavers has totaled two 20-plus point games in conference while also averaging a team-leading 2.21 assists per game so far. Over the entire season, Shavers has recorded a team-best 23 double-figure scoring games (out of a possible 27) and 11 of those have come during Big 12 play.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The Bearcats (14-10, 6-8 Big 12) are currently in ninth place in the Big 12 following their loss to No. 14 West Virginia. Averaging 65.4 points per game and shooting nearly 75 percent from the free throwline, the Cincinnati offense will be threatening in the paint led by their senior duo Jillian Hayes and Tineya Hylton, who are both averaging double figures in scoring with 16.4 and 13.0 points per game, respectively. On the rebounding side, Hayes leads the team with 9.7 boards per game followed by Alliance Ndiba with 7.3.
