Women’s 4x400 breaks 12-year school record

The women’s 4x400 team set a new Tech record for the first time since 2013
LUBBOCK, Texas– The Texas Tech track and field team wrapped up the final day of the Corky Classic Saturday afternoon inside the Sports Performance Center.
In one of the final events of the day, the 4x400 team (2nd place) of Mekenze Kelley, Anita Afrifa, Lovina Ewusi and Vanessa Balde combined for a time of 3:31.83 for a new Tech record. It's the best time since 2013 when Amoy Blake, Cierra White, Christen Rivers and Candace Jackson ran 3:33.72.
In the women's high jump, Temitope Adeshina came out with a strong season opener, winning the competition at 1.93m (6-4) as her first miss of the day came when she was attempting to clear 1.96m (6-5). As of today, she holds the NCAA lead and is No. 2 in the world.
When it came to the triple jump, newcomer Johnathan Seremes shined in his Red Raider debut, leaping over 16-meters each attempt. All six of his jumps are now in the Texas Tech top-10 as he won the competition with a mark of 16.79m (55-1), which is No. 2 all-time for Tech. That mark currently is No. 1 in the world and NCAA.
The day started off in strong fashion as Lily Mather broke the school record in the women's 1,000m with a time of 2:46.05. She then capped off her day in the 3,000m with a time of 9:55.00.
Notables
· Three Red Raiders in the women's triple jump leaped over 13 meters. Grace Oshiokpu (1st, 13.27m), Tamiah Washington (2nd, 13.24) and Olga Szlachta (4th, 13.07m).
· George Garcia finished 3rd in the 600yd with a time of 1:08.41, No. 3 all-time for Texas Tech.
· Jenna Carter won the women's 1,000m clocking in at 9:54.61 (PB) as Lila Crowley placed 3rd at 10:17.81 (PB).
· Evelynn Lavielle (2nd) and Claire Lowrey (3rd) both cleared 1.81m (5-11.25) in the high jump.
· The men's A 4x400 team of Johnathan Crawford, Kamron Neal, George Garcia and Elijah Ferguson placed 2nd overall running 3:06.02.
