No. 21 Tech welcomes No. 12 TCU on Sunday

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 21 Texas Tech Lady Raiders host the No. 12 TCU Horned Frogs on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the United Supermarkets Arena. Texas Tech leads the all-time series against TCU, 49-17. However, TCU has won the last three meetings. The Lady Raiders' last victory over the Horned Frogs was on Jan. 27, 2024 by a 71-65 score in Lubbock.
Texas Tech (20-3, 7-3 Big 12) has made six or more 3-pointers over the last nine games, tallying 77 made threes during that span. In Tech's last game against Iowa State, Tech went 9-for-24 from behind the arc (.375), as dour players made two apiece. The Lady Raiders tied a season-best of 13 threes against Arizona on Jan. 3. Texas Tech is ranked 33rd nationally in three-point percentage (.354) and are making 8.0 3-pointers per game, which is sixth in the Big 12.
Point guard Gemma Núñez has helped the Lady Raiders faÂcilitate the ball tremendously this season. The team leader in assists (119), Núñez ranks 19th nationally and third in the Big 12 in assist to turnover ratio (2.33). Her 119 assists are 18th nationally, while her 5.2 assists per game is good for 32nd. In addition, Núñez is third in the Big 12 and 60th in the nation in steals (51), just behind teammate Denae Fritz who has 52. Núñez is second on the team totaling eight games with three or more steals and solely leads with 16 games tallying five or more assists. She has posted three or more assists in 13 in the last 14 games, while recording eight of those last 13 games with five or more assists.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The No. 12-ranked TCU Horned Frogs are 20-2 on the season and 8-1 in Big 12 play. Their two losses were against Utah and Ohio State, but they have key wins over West Virginia, Arizona State, Oklahoma State and BYU. TCU is averaging 80.8 points per game and holding opponents to just 54.3 points per game. Shooting 48.3 percent from the field and 36.1 percent from behind the arc, the Horned Frogs are also averaging 42.0 rebounds per game, 19.2 assists per game and 5.7 blocks per game. There are four players who average double-figures on the season in Olivia Miles (19.2), Marta Suarez (15.4), Donovyn Hunter (12.1) and Clara Silva (10.3). On the rebounding side, Silva leads the team with 8.0 per game, followed by Miles with 7.0 per game.
