REDSHIRT FRESHMAN SEASON (2020)
Appeared in nine of Tech’s 19 games while making four starts coming off of a redshirt year … three of his four starts came at first base and the other at designated hitter … a solid left-handed bat that hit .417 for the year in a limited role … helped Tech go 16-3 during the shortened 2020 season, climbing at one point to as high as No. 1 in the polls for the first time since 1997 … finished 10-for-24 at the plate with three doubles, three RBI and six runs … also walked three times and struck out only twice … put up a .542 slugging percentage and .481 on base percentage … posted two multi-hit games … tallied a three-game hitting streak … recorded season highs of four hits and three runs against Northern Colorado (Feb. 15) on opening weekend … 20 of his plate appearances came against right-handers as he hit .350 … added 3 hits in four plate appearances against lefties … defensively, posted a 1.000 fielding percentage at first base with 24 putouts … opened the year by going 1-for-1 with an RBI, a run and a walk in his Red Raider debut against Houston Baptist (Feb. 15) … hit his first double a game later in his first career start against Northern Colorado (Feb. 15) as he compiled season highs in hits and runs … perhaps his most memorable moment came against Rice (Mar. 8) as he delivered a walk-off doubles in the bottom of the 11th inning … HONORS … Academic All-Big 12 Second Team … TEAM LEADER … led the team with a .563 batting average (9-for-16) in home games … AGAINST NATIONALLY RANKED TEAMS … made one appearance against No. 10 Mississippi State in Biloxi, Miss. … struck out in his only plate appearance … AGAINST UNRANKED TEAMS … eight of his nine appearances came against unranked competition … compiled a .435 batting average … all of his hits, doubles, RBI and runs came against unranked foes … HOME GAMES … made six of his nine appearances and two of his four starts at home … posted a team-high .563 batting average with nine hits in 16 at bats … all of his hits, doubles, RBI and runs occurred at home … AWAY GAMES … did not appear in Tech’s two true road games in Tallahassee … NEUTRAL SITE … made three appearances and two starts in Tech’s six neutral site games … went 1-for-8 at the plate for a .125 batting average … started two of three games at the Round Rock Classic, starting at first base against Tennessee (Feb. 21) and at DH against Houston (Feb. 23) … turned in a 1-for-3 effort against Houston with a walk … DAY GAMES … appeared in seven games with three starts … impressed with a .526 batting average that ranked second on the team … all of his hits, doubles, RBI and runs came during day games … added three walks … NIGHT GAMES … started one of the two games he appeared and went hitless in five plate appearances.

Born in Richmond, Virginia … son of Toby and Kari Rumfield … brother to Samantha and Justin … father spent 14 years in professional baseball, playing for the Braves, White Sox, Marlins and Cardinals’ minor league systems … father coached him in high school and is now the head coach at Denton High School … plans to major in Communications.
