Competed in three meets … opened year with ninth-place finish in javelin at the Texas Tech Corky/Crofoot Shootout … finished fifth in the shot put at the Texas Tech Masked Rider Invite … competed in the Decathlon at the Big 12 Championships, where he PR’d in the shot put en route to finishing 10th.

2017 OUTDOOR
Gayle took part in two meets for the Red Raiders, one of which was the Big 12 Track & Field Outdoor Championship ... he finished 10th overall in the decathlon, totaling 6346 points ... this performance included a personal-best in the high jump (1.84m/6-0.50), the long jump (6.57m/21-6.75), pole vault (3.71m/12-2) and javelin throw (50.86m/166-10) ... finished fourth in the hammer throw at the Texas Tech Red Raider Shootout.
2017 INDOOR
Competed in four meets during the indoor season amassing 16 events ... opened the indoor season with bests in the long jump (6.13m/20-1.50) and shot put (10.18m/33-4.75) ... at the New Mexico Classic, he hit his season-best in the 60H clocking an 8.86 run ... the remainder of his top performances were at the Big 12 Indoor Championship, high jump (1.82m/5-11.50), 1000m (3:01.03), 60m (7.27), where he took 14th place overall with 3555 points in the heptathlon.
