No. 16 Northwestern Defeats Men's Tennis, 5-2

Texas Tech’s last four losses have come at the hands of Top 25 opponents.
EVANSTON, Ill. – The Texas Tech men's tennis team jumped out to a 2-0 advantage at No. 16 Northwestern before the Wildcats closed the match with five consecutive points on Sunday at the Combe Tennis Center.
The Wildcats (12-6) have won 10 of their 11 home matches this season, while Texas Tech (6-9) has had its last four losses come against ranked opponents.
The Red Raiders grinded out a pair of hard-fought doubles wins on courts two and three to capture the early 1-0 edge.
Texas Tech's Jackson Cobb and Alex Sendegeya overcame a 3-2 deficit and reeled off four of the last five games to tuck away a 6-4 triumph over Chris Ephron and Michael Lorenzini at the No. 3 spot.
All square at 5-5, Jolan Cailleau and Carlos DiLaura made the plays down the stretch for the Red Raiders to secure a 7-5 victory against No. 51 Strong Kirchheimer and Dominik Stary at the No. 2 position.
When play was stopped, Texas Tech's Connor Curry and Bjorn Thomson were locked in a tiebreaker versus Sam Stropshire and Konrad Zieba on the No. 1 doubles line.
Thomson extended his singles run to 10-0 to start the dual match season with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Stary on court three to give Texas Tech a 2-0 advantage. Thomson won the closing five games of the opening set and took the first three games of set two to seize control of the match.
Northwestern began to turn the tables and evened the match at 2-2 on the strength of straight set victories from its Top 40 players at the top of the lineup. No. 40 Zieba knocked off Curry by a 6-3, 6-2 margin whereas No. 28 Kirchheimer defeated No. 54 Cailleau by a 6-4, 6-3 score line.
The Wildcats took a 3-2 lead courtesy of Seidman's tightly-contested 6-3, 7-6 (4) decision over DiLaura on court five.
Northwestern closed out the 5-2 decision after three-set wins from Ben Vandixhorn over Sendegeya and Brenden Volk over Cobb in the No. 4 and No. 6 slots, respectively.
Texas Tech has next week off and will conclude a stretch of eight consecutive matches away from home versus No. 10 Southern Cal and No. 37 Indiana in California. The USC match is set for Tuesday, March 14 in Los Angeles followed by the Indiana match on Thursday, March 16 in LaJolla.
