Red Raiders increase total by 19 from last season
IRVING, Texas – The Texas Tech Track & Field teams had 17 male and 22 female athletes named to the Academic All-Big 12 first and second teams.

Braden Darrow and Steven Duran were two of the 11 men's honorees to register a 4.0 GPA. On the women's side, Natalie Parks & Hattie Schunk were two of 22 athletes to post a 4.0 GPA.

Athletes who received first team selections were: Zuliat Alli, Kaylee Amershek, Werner Bouwer, Hunter Carlton, Trey Culver, Braden Darrow, Steven Duran, Jessica Gallardo, Riley Gonzales, Jade Greer, Allison Halloran, Tayler Jameson, Alexandria Johnson, Kirsten Johnson, CJ Jones, Brooke Merrick, Todd Mickey, Bret Leigh Nance, Crystal Onwukaife, Natalie Parks, Lauren Schiller, Hattie Schunk, Chancellor Stephenson, Cyre Virgo, Ivone Walker, Dorian Williams, Ebenether Wondaferew, Lauren Younger and Joacim Zuniga.

Athletes who received second team honors were: Dorleta Armendariz-Lasa Ardran Carr, Vincent Crisp, Nathan Gift, Kate Halloran, Kaylee Hinton, Brianna Johnson, Duke Kicinski, Shea Whatley and Megan Wood.

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

Texas Tech track & field will compete at the 2017 Big 12 Outdoor Championships this weekend, May 11-13, in Waco, Texas.
