Men's tennis to conclude regular season with three home matches
FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 29 ranked Texas Tech men's tennis team was defeated by No 9 TCU by a final margin of 5-2 in Fort Worth on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Raiders have completed their regular season road schedule at 4-3 and 4-4 on neutral courts.
Tech began Sunday's match by battling the Horned Frogs in doubles play. After dropping their first match on court two, the Red Raiders would tally a victory from the No. 9 ranked duo of Bjorn Thomson and Parker Wynn on court one. TCU would then take the doubles point with a 6-3 win on court three.
In singles play, the Red Raiders fell behind early with losses on courts six and two. Tech would bounce back, however, by picking up a point from Thomson in straight sets on court four. Sophomore Ilgiz Valiev provided the second-straight match point for Tech on court three, as he racked up a 6-4, 6-4 win on court three to bring the Red Raiders back to within one match point.
In what became a back-and-forth affair on court one, the Horned Frogs would eventually secure the match win, as No. 99 Wynn was defeated 7-6, 6-4.
Freshman Franco Ribero would round out the weekend for Tech, as he was defeated in a winner-take-all superset in the third.
