
Tech completes day one of Wes Kittley Invite

Kayli Johnson and Halena Rahmaan each recorded first-place finishes
ABILENE, Texas – The Texas Tech track and field team wrapped up day one of the Wes Kittley Invitational hosted by ACU at Elmer Gray Stadium Friday night.
It was the distance group and throwers representing Tech on the first day of the outdoor season. Timothy Gregg led the Red Raiders 1500 pack as he placed fourth overall, hitting the sub-four minute mark for the second time in the Red and Black with a new PR of 3:54.23. Thomas Velvin (3:55.98, PR), Owen Likins (3:56.79) and Kirk Zuber (3:58.57) finished fifth, sixth, and eighth to round out the top 10.
Meanwhile in the women's 1500, it was led by Halena Rahmaan as she placed first overall with a time of 4:36.61. Kyra Young placed fourth (4:47.68, PR), Michaela Lewis finished fifth (4:50.72), and Sydney White (4:57.12) crossed the line seventh, capping off the top 10 runners for TTU. In the 3000 steeplechase, Binta Ka placed third with a time of 11:42.46.
Over in the 5000, Sharon Chumo led the way with a fifth place outing (18:19.72), while Bryce Boggs placed ninth with a time of 15:29.61 in his first collegiate race in the event.
Gabe Oladipo was the top finisher for Tech in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 62.72m (205-09) coming in second. Kayli Johnson finished third with a mark of 52.40m (171-11) but placed first in the shot put at 16.49m (54-1.25).
The Red Raiders conclude the invitational tomorrow morning. The javelin starts the meet at 9:30 a.m. while the last running event (4x400 relay) is slated to start at 6:30 p.m.
