SOPHOMORE (2017-18)
Hyrkkonen garnered an 11-4 singles record and won four of five dual match decisions … Seven of his 11 singles victories came during the fall season … Won his last three singles matches and dropped a combined six games at the UTSA Fall Cup (Oct. 13-15) … Picked up two consolation singles wins at the ITA Texas Regionals (Oct. 20-23) … Earned the fourth point for Texas Tech as part of 7-0 sweeps over UTPB (Jan. 14) and Louisiana-Lafayette (Jan. 19) … Defeated UTPB’s Felipe Dias by a 6-2, 6-1 score line and ULL’s Dominik Koenig by a 6-3, 6-0 margin … Collected a 6-4, 7-6 (3) victory over Rice’s Ashton Duke … Notched a 7-7 doubles record which included a 5-5 mark with Matheus Leite … Claimed three wins at the top flight of the UTSA Cup (Oct. 13-15) … Came away with doubles wins at the No. 3 spot versus UTPB (Jan. 14) and Rice (March 4).

Hyrkkonen joined the Red Raiders before the spring season and came away with a 1-9 singles record mostly between the No. 5 and No. 6 positions … Defeated Mauricio Del Rio (6-3, 6-0) of UTA (Apr. 13) to clinch a 4-0 sweep over the Mavericks … Collected a 3-4 doubles record and secured Texas Tech’s first three doubles points from the No. 3 line with Ronit Bisht … Knocked off Sean Baklini and Jorge Escutia (6-2) of New Mexico (Jan. 14) during season opener.
PRIOR TO TEXAS TECH
A native of Finland who signed with the Red Raiders in November 2016 … Held a career-high ITF singles ranking of 583 … Won the 2015 men’s national indoor and outdoor doubles championships in Finland … Captured 2014 U18 indoor singles title along with the 2014 U18 national indoor and outdoor doubles crowns … Chose Texas Tech over Oklahoma, SMU and Boise State.
