No. 30 Men's Tennis Takes on No. 39 USD at NCAA's

The Red Raiders will face San Diego for the second time this season.
LOS ANGELES – The No. 30 Texas Tech men's tennis team returns to the NCAA Tournament and squares off with No. 39 San Diego during Saturday's opening round action from the Los Angeles Tennis Center on the UCLA campus.
The Red Raiders (19-10) and Toreros (16-8) will meet for the second time this season. Texas Tech has won five of the last six meetings between the two schools since 2008 and claimed a 4-3 comeback victory on the road earlier this season. Tommy Mylnikov and Alex Sendegeya closed out the win with a pair of three-set victories.
The winner of Saturday's opening round matchup will advance to face regional host and No. 2 UCLA or Idaho. Sunday's second round is set for a 3 p.m. CT first serve with the regional winner advancing to the NCAA Round of 16 in Winston-Salem, N.C. hosted by Wake Forest next Thursday.
The Red Raiders have collected NCAA Tournament bids in tow of three seasons under head coach Brett Masi. Overall, Texas Tech has appeared in 11 of the last 14 NCAA Tournaments dating back to the 2005 season.
The Red Raiders have had Connor Curry, Ilgiz Valiev, Artem Kapshuk and Matheus Leite dial up 10-plus wins playing mostly from the No. 3 to the No. 6 positions in the lineup. Valiev has come away with 11 of his 17 victories on court four followed by Curry who has tucked away five of his 14 wins on court three. Both players have captured multiple wins over ranked opponents this season.
Mylnikov moved up one spot in the ITA singles rankings to No. 105 released on May 3 whereas Sendegeya worked his way to four no decisions against Big 12 opponents. The senior was either leading or tied in three of those matchups.
Texas Tech has secured the doubles point in 19 of 29 matches and have posted a 17-2 mark when taking the first point of the match. The two exceptions were against then No. 6 Texas A&M on Feb. 11 and at then No. 16 Oklahoma on April 8.
Jackson Cobb and Sendegeya hold a No. 79 doubles ranking by the ITA. The duo has garnered three victories over fellow ranked pairs. Curry and Valiev coupled with Leite and Mynikov have spent the majority of the Big 12 season at the No. 2 and No. 3 slots, respectively.
