Red Raiders Ready For NCAA Outdoor Championships

Texas Tech sends 19 student-athletes in 16 events
LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 2 men's team and the No. 42 women's team are set to compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships at the historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., on June 6-9.

Texas Tech will send 19 student-athletes to compete in 14 individual entries and two relays at the national meet. In order to qualify for the NCAA Championships, a top-12 finish was required in each of the Red Raiders' respective events two weeks ago at the NCAA West Preliminary.

All four days of the NCAA Outdoor Championships will air of the ESPN family of networks. Wednesday's men's semifinal action will begin at 2:20 p.m. CT, on ESPN3 before the broadcast moves to ESPN2 at 6:30 p.m. CT. The women's first day of action begins on ESPN3 at 11:50 a.m. CT, Thursday before making the switch to ESPN2 at 6 p.m. CT.

Friday's finals for the men opens at 5:20 p.m. CST, on ESPN3 before the conclusion of the meet will air on ESPN at 7 p.m. CT. The final day of action begins at 4:50 p.m. CT on ESPN3 for the women, while action will conclude at 5:30 p.m. CT on ESPN.

In addition to the live broadcast, live results will be available courtesy of the NCAA.

Texas Tech will begin competition on Wednesday at 6:32 p.m. CT, with the men's 4x100m relay semifinal. Earlier this season, Darien Tennon, Divine Oduduru, Andrew Hudson and Charles Brown broke the 32-year old school record with a time of 39.01. The mark currently ranks No. 11 in the country.

Divine Oduduru punched his ticket in the men's 100m and 200m dash for his first trip to Eugene of his career. Oduduru broke the 100m school record with a 10.10 time at the Michael Johnson Invitational.

Drew McMichael makes his first trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Earlier this spring, McMichael qualified for the Indoor Championships. Two weeks ago, he cleared 5.15m (16-10.75) at the West Prelims to advance to the final site. He is set to compete at 7 p.m. CT on Wednesday.

Charles Brown and Odaine Lewis are set to compete in the men's long jump on Wednesday at 8 p.m. CT. Lewis also punched his ticket in the men's triple jump. He is one of three athletes to qualify in the men's long jump and triple jump.

Although Vincent Crisp has been to the national meet the last three years, this will be his first trip to compete in the 800m. He qualified with his school record breaking time of 1:46.31. Crisp and the 800m semifinal is set for 8:14 p.m. CT on Wednesday.

Norman Grimes will compete in the men's 400m hurdles in his first trip to Eugene with the Red Raiders. The sophomore from Canyon, Texas, qualified for the postseason after running a 49.38 to win the Big 12 Outdoor Championships.

On Thursday, the women's 4x100m relay team will be the lone competitors for Texas Tech. The relay heats are set to begin at 6:02 p.m. CT.

The men's running finals are scheduled for Friday. Those Red Raiders who finish in the top two of their heat or the top two time after that will advance to the finals.

Junior Kaylee Hinton begins her Heptathlon events on Friday at 2:30 p.m. CT with the 100m hurdles. This is her second straight season to compete at the national meet. Last year, Hinton finished eighth with 5,580 points.

Senior Trey Culver begins his hunt for his first outdoor high jump title on Friday at 7 p.m. CT. The Lubbock native has captured two indoor national titles and finished second at last year's outdoor championships.

Duke Kicinski will compete in his first NCAA Division I Outdoor Championship since transferring to Texas Tech. Kicinski punched his ticket to Eugene in the discus when he threw 56.01m (183-9) at the West Prelims, the fourth best throw at the meet. He will compete on Friday at 7:05 p.m. CT.

The women's team will complete their run at nationals on Saturday. Zarriea Willis and Cyre Virgo will be the last two Red Raiders on the field as they compete in the high jump. Competition is set to begin at 5 p.m. CT.
