With the win, Texas Tech finished third at the ASU Spring Break Tournament
MESA, Ariz. – Led by clutch performances from Isaac Arevalo and Reed Collier, the Texas Tech men's tennis program secured a come-from-behind 4-2 victory over Wichita State Sunday afternoon at the Kawanis Tennis Center.
Down early, Texas Tech (12-6) rallied to win for the seventh time in eight matches.
The doubles point got off to a good start for the Red Raiders, as Arevalo and Piotr Pawlak cruised to a 6-1 victory on court one. After the Shockers (9-8) answered back with a 6-2 victory on court two, WSU clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 victory on court three.
Needing a response, Tech used a pair of straight set victories to pull ahead 2-1. Franco Ribero secured the Red Raiders first point of the afternoon with a 6-1, 7-5 victory on court six.
As he has for a majority of the young season, Olle Wallin won his match, securing a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Orel Ovil of WSU on court three. Wallin is now 8-4 on the season and has won seven of his last eight matches.
Wichita State answered minutes later when Alex Richards won 6-2, 6-4 over Ilgiz Valiev.
Behind a strong final two sets from Collier, Texas Tech was able to win on court two. The victory gave Tech a 3-2 lead. Collier rebounded after losing the first set in a tiebreaker to win the final two sets one and four.
Just one point shy of clinching the second victory over WSU in 10 days, Tech turned to court one where Arevalo fought off an opening-set setback to cruise to the next two sets, four and three.
