Tech returns home for critical two matches

The Red Raiders welcome No. 34 Oklahoma, No. 44 OSU
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech men's tennis program returns to action this Friday and Sunday when No. 34 Oklahoma and No. 44 Oklahoma State visit the McLeod Tennis Center for a pair of crucial Big 12 Conference matches.
Entering the weekend ranked 42nd-overall, Texas Tech (12-9, 0-2 Big 12) will look to solidify its resume for next months NCAA Tournament.
Tech has made the last four NCAA Tournaments that have been held dating back to the 2016-17 season (the tournament was not contested in 2019-20 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic).
The Red Raiders return home to the McLeod Tennis Center for the first time since March 6 and will close the regular season with three straight home matches. Tech is 7-1 at home this season.

LAST TIME OUT:
Texas Tech opened Big 12 Conference play on the road last weekend, falling to No. 3 TCU and No. 11 Texas. The Red Raiders managed to force three different three-set matches on Friday against the Horned Frogs, before ultimately falling 6-1. Charlotte transfer Olle Wallin recorded the lone win for Tech, a 6-4, 6-4 victory over No. 65 Lui Maxted of TCU. On Sunday, Tech fell in all six singles matches. Dimitrios Azoidis came the closest to putting a point on the board for the Red Raiders, as the junior fell 9-7 in an opening set tiebreaker. Azoidis rebounded for a 6-4 victory in set two, before falling in the 10-point super-tiebreaker, 10-8.
SCOUTING THE SOONERS:
Oklahoma enters the weekend at 13-5 overall, and 0-1 in Big 12 play. The Sooners opened their Big 12 slate last Friday when they hosted Oklahoma State. OU was victorious, 4-3 in that contest. In that match, OU overcame losing the doubles point, to record a victory in four of the first five matches. Alex Martinez used a strong third set to seal the Sooners victory. So far this season, OU is 0-3 on the road, and just 2-4 away from Norman. Two Sooners enter the weekend ranked inside the ITA rankings, led by Mason Beiler who checks-in at No. 41. Mark Mandik is the other Sooner to be ranked, as Mandik checks in at No. 82 overall. OU's duo of Welsh Hotard and Alex Martinez enter the weekend ranked as the No. 73 doubles duo in the country.
SCOUTING THE COWBOYS:
Oklahoma State enters the weekend at 11-7 overall, and 0-1 in Big 12 play. After starting 2-5 overall, OSU used a pair of victories over UNLV to jumpstart a five-match winning streak. OSU fell to MTSU 6-1, before rattling off three victories over SMU, Memphis and Tulane. The Cowboys went 1-1 last weekend, rebounding from the aforementioned setback to OU with a 4-2 victory over Tulsa. So far this season, Tyler Zink has handled the lion share of the opportunities on court one. Zink is 8-4 this season on court one. Freshman Francisco Pini has been OSU's most successful player this season. Pini is 13-1 overall this season including a perfect 6-0 record when playing as the Cowboys No. 5 player.
