Red Raiders take down Roadrunners

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Red Raiders men's tennis team got the win on Sunday afternoon, beating the UTSA Roadrunners, 4-1, at the Falls Tennis and Athletic Club.
Despite the winter blizzard outside, Texas Tech (5-3) duo Olle Wallin and Lorenzo Esquici brought the heat. The pairing won 6-3 at court two pushing their dual record to 3-1 on the season. The tandem of Sebastian Abboud and Piotr Pawlak are now 6-0 in dual matches after grabbing a 6-4 win against No. 27 Alan Magadan and Tomas Pinho at the top court. They broke serve in the seventh game to go up 4-3, propelling them to capture Tech's sixth doubles point this season against the Roadrunners (3-4).
Moving on to singles, No. 80 Wallin dominated his match against UTSA's Alan Magadan. He earned his fifth victory at court one, winning 6-1 in straight sets. After a tough first set loss, 2-6, freshman Jonas Gundacker's resiliency was on full display. He won the second set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (3), before posting a 6-1 score in the final set earning a respectable point against formally ranked No. 115 Pinho at court three.
Over at court four, freshman Niksa Arsic led 4-1 in sets one and two, but UTSA's Danijal Muminovic rallied back to tie each. Arsic showed his composure, winning both by a score of 7-5, 7-6 (3), which clinched the team point for the Red Raiders.
When the match was finished, Pawlak led UTSA's Jackson Ross, 6-3, 3-1, on court five and Abboud led UTSA's Miguel Alonso, 4-2, on court six.Â
Up next, Texas Tech heads to Lincoln, Neb., to face the University of Nebraska at 6 p.m. on February 23, and the University of Tulsa at 2 p.m. on February 24.
