- Tabbed to wear the No. 3 offensive jersey by head coach Joey McGuire prior to spring practices, which is reserved for the player who best represents the standards of “The Brand” on both sides of the ball.
2024 SEASON (SOPHOMORE)
- Played in all 13 games with starts in 12 contests … was not in the starting lineup only once, which came at TCU midway through Big 12 play … his 12 starts in 2024 pushed his career total to 19.
- Ranked third on the team after catching 49 passes for 652 yards and a team-leading seven touchdowns … joined with fellow receivers Josh Kelly and Caleb Douglas to become the first Red Raider trio to each record at least 600 receiving yards in a season since 2018.
- Part of a Red Raider offense that ranked ninth in the country for both passing yards per game (296.7) and total offense per game (462.7) … the Red Raiders were also tied for 10th in the FBS with 31 team receiving touchdowns.
- Caught at least one pass in all 13 games with multiple receptions in all but one of those contests … joined Caleb Douglas as the only Red Raders to catch a pass in all 13 games … hauled in at least four receptions in seven different games and had two more games with three catches … finished with 50 or more receiving yards in six games overall.
- Of his 49 receptions on the season, more than half – 25 to be exact – went for at least 10 yards, which was third on the team behind both Kelly and Douglas … recorded 10 explosive catches of 20 or more yards overall with three of those going 30 yards, two that resulted in 40 yards, including one over 50 yards … had the longest catch by any Red Raider on the season with a 70-yard haul against North Texas.
- Dynamic asset with his ability to throw the ball as a wide receiver as well as a punt returner on special teams … completed 1-of-2 pass attempts on the season via trick plays with the lone completion resulting in a touchdown at Washington State … utilized as a punt returner on occasion during the season for his sure-handed ability.
- Credited with 816 offensive snaps on the season by Pro Football Focus, which ranked fifth on the team and led the wide receiver room … trailed only offensive linemen Caleb Rogers, Sheridan Wilson and Davion Carter as well as quarterback Behren Morton … majority of snaps came as an outside receiver (453) with the other 52 coming in the slot … added an additional 76 snaps on special teams, appearing on kickoff return consistently throughout the season as well as on kickoff coverage and on punt returns.
- AWARDS AND HONORS: recognized for his work in the classroom as part of the Academic All-Big 12 team.
- IN BIG 12 RANKINGS: concluded the season ranked tied for ninth in the conference with his team-leading seven receiving touchdowns.
- Abilene Christian (8/31): kicked off the season with five catches for 76 yards and two touchdowns in the victory over the Wildcats … hauled in the first touchdown reception of the season on a four-yard reception from Behren Morton midway through the first quarter that gave the Red Raiders a 15-0 lead following a successful two-point conversion … found the end zone again later in the quarter on a 35-yard strike from Morton, marking his first multi-touchdown game of his young career.
- at Washington State (9/7): added another five receptions the following week against the Cougars, resulting in 54 yards through the air … used his arm for Texas Tech’s first touchdown of the game, finding Johncarlos Miller II for a 20-yard strike with 5:33 remaining until halftime … marked the first touchdown pass by a Red Raider wide receiver since Jakeem Grant connected with Reginald Davis for 72 yards at Arkansas in 2015.
- North Texas (9/14): lone reception resulted in a 70-yard touchdown catch in the rout over the Mean Green … marked the longest catch of his career and the longest by any Red Raider on the season … touchdown pushed Texas Tech’s lead to 24-7 early in the second quarter.
- Arizona State (9/21): limited to only three catches for 29 yards in the Big 12 opener against the Sun Devils.
- Cincinnati (9/28): put together his second multi-touchdown game of the season against the Bearcats as part of three catches for 78 yards and a pair of scores … raced into the endzone via a 7-yard completion form Behren Morton late in the first quarter and then again on a 49-yard strike on Texas Tech’s next possession … the two touchdowns helped the Red Raiders erase an early 14-3 deficit and tie the game at 17-17 with 10:32 remaining until halftime … marked the fourth and fifth touchdown receptions of the season already through five games.
- at TCU (10/26): found the end zone again at TCU as part of four catches for 56 yards and a touchdown … hauled in a contested catch down the left sideline, resulting in a 13-yard touchdown from Will Hammond to cap a successful 78-yard scoring drive to start the second half … later added a 29-yard reception early in the fourth quarter, which set up a Gino Garcia field goal … performance followed two catches for 12 yards at Arizona (10/5) and three receptions for 20 yards against Baylor (10/19).
- at Iowa State (11/2): helped set up a key Red Raider touchdown with a 25-yard reception late in the third quarter in the road ranked win over the Cyclones … pushed the Red Raiders to the Iowa State 23-yard line, setting up a Josh Kelly 19-yard touchdown reception three plays later for a 17-13 lead … catch was part of two receptions for 32 yards in the win.
- Colorado (11/9): had four catches for 40 yards against the Buffaloes, including a 27-yarder late in the first quarter … completion on 3rd-and-9 pushed the Red Raiders into the red zone, setting up a Gino Garcia field goal for an early 13-0 lead … moved the sticks with another key third-down catch in the fourth quarter, this time resulting in 13 yards to help set up Jalin Conyers 21-yard touchdown grab.
- at Oklahoma State (11/23): recorded season highs with seven receptions and 90 receiving yards in the road win over the Cowboys … finished one catch off his career high, which was set the previous season against TCU … made three catches alone on Texas Tech’s two-minute drive before halftime, totaling 40 yards to pave the way for a Tahj Brooks 25-yard touchdown catch with only one second remaining … came close to reaching the endzone himself midway through the fourth quarter thanks to a 21-yard haul from Morton that gave the Red Raiders the ball at the 3-yard line, setting up another Brooks touchdown for a 49-42 lead.
- West Virginia (11/30): closed the regular season with six receptions for 48 yards in the rout over the Mountaineers … combined for 13 catches for 138 yards over the final two games of the regular season.
- vs. Arkansas (12/27): scored in the bowl game for a second-straight season thanks to a 15-yard touchdown pass from Will Hammond late in the fourth quarter … was part of four catches for 47 yards against the Razorbacks … set up the touchdown with an 18-yard catch two plays earlier on the drive.
2023 SEASON (REDSHIRT FRESHMAN)
- Appeared in 10 games overall with seven starts after missing the entire non-conference slate due to a preseason injury ... developed into one of Texas Tech’s top receiving options during second full year in the program.
- Turned into a regular target for Behren Morton during Big 12 play, catching 36 passes for 416 yards and a pair of touchdowns overall … all but one of his catches came over the final eight contests … had multiple catches in eight of 10 games and four or more receptions in five different contests.
- Went over the 100-yard mark in two different contests, which led the team … was the team leader in receiving yards in four different games and at least shared the team high for receptions in four contests.
- Credited with playing in 541 offensive snaps by Pro Football Focus, which ranked ninth on the team and was second among wide receivers … also a member of Texas Tech’s punt return unit on special teams.
- Made his season debut with one catch for nine yards at West Virginia (9/23) … caught his first career touchdown two weeks later as part of two receptions for 20 yards in the win at Baylor (10/7) … touchdown came via a 13-yard back-shoulder throw from Behren Morton for the Red Raiders’ first touchdown of the night …
- Followed with his first career 100-yard outing a week later with five catches for 102 yards against Kansas State (10/14) … limited to just two catches for four yards at BYU (10/21) … nearly matched his season total for catches in the TCU (11/2) win alone with a career-high eight grabs for 78 yards … had three catches for 29 yards at Kansas as well as four catches for 41 yards versus UCF (11/18) and then four catches for 27 yards at Texas (11/24).
- Wrapped his successful season with another strong performance in the Radiant Technologies Independence Bowl … set a new career high with 106 receiving yards off seven catches in the victory over Cal (12/16) … found the end zone for the second time in his career in the win, which came via a 27-yard contested catch from Morton with 4:19 remaining in the first quarter.

2022 SEASON (FRESHMAN)
- Redshirt season … began the season on the two-deep at outside receiver before an injury late in preseason camp … managed to appear in four games overall at wide receiver, three in Big 12 play and then against Ole Miss in the TaxAct Texas Bowl (12/28) … other three appearances came against West Virginia (10/22), Kansas (11/12) and at Iowa State (11/19).
- Inserted on punt return unit in the wins over both Iowa State and Ole Miss … targeted near the end zone just before halftime in the win over Ole Miss as well.
HIGH SCHOOL
- Attended Stephenville High School in Stephenville, Texas … led the Yellowjackets to the Class 4A Division I state title his senior year after one of the best receiving seasons in recent memory … caught nine passes for 187 and three touchdowns, while rushing for another in the state title game alone to push Stephenville past Austin LBJ for a perfect 16-0 record.
- Led the nation in receiving yards after catching 93 passes for 2,140 yards and 31 touchdowns as a senior … also rushed for 213 yards and four touchdowns to finish with 2,662 all-purpose yards … was a first team All-State honoree by the Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA) … tabbed the District 5-4A Offensive MVP as a senior and was a first team pick as a junior in 2020.
- Previously helped lead Stephenville to the area round of the playoffs as a junior after hauling in 82 passes for 854 yards and seven touchdowns … was a two-way player during most of his high school career, also earning second team All-District 5-4A honors as a defensive utility player as a sophomore in 2019.
- Competed in track and field, placing first in the district finals in the long and triple jump.
- Consensus three-star prospect by the likes of 247Sports, ESPN and Rivals … did not commit until Jan. 30 right before the spring signing period, marking the final signee of Joey McGuire’s first class as Texas Tech’s head coach … CHOSE TEXAS TECH OVER: North Texas, TCU and Washington State, among others.
PERSONAL
- Coy Eakin … son of Mark and Kelly Eakin … has one sibling, Caitlin.
- Father is the head rodeo coach at Tarleton State in Stephenville and held the same position previously at West Texas A&M in Canyon … rodeo success turned out to be hereditary with the younger Eakin also finding success as a roper growing up … suffered a broken tibia and fibula due to rodeo at age 10, which resulted in him having two different sized feet moving forward … wears a size-14 shoe on his left foot and a size-12 on his right foot now.
- Enjoys fishing, hunting and playing golf outside of football.
- A sport management major at Texas Tech.
