HIGH SCHOOL
Attended Gunter High School just north of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex … moved to the defensive side of the ball as a Red Raider after being a two-way player during prep career … primarily played quarterback but also got snaps at safety … helped lead Gunter to the Class 3A Division II state championship game as a senior … threw for 149 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 57 yards in that game, which was played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington … previously helped push Gunter to a victory in the Class 3A Division II state title game to conclude his sophomore season in 2019 … found the end zone once in that state title game as part of 36 rushing yards to go with 34 passing yards … trips to the state title game were sandwiched around an appearance in the state semifinals his junior year … finished his senior season with 1,804 passing yards and 27 touchdowns while adding 1,204 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns on the ground in Gunter’s run-heavy pistol option offense … tabbed the District 8-3A MVP as both a junior and senior … passed for 2,003 yards as a junior to go along with 656 rushing yards and 35 total touchdowns in 2020 … previously the District 5-3A Co-Offensive Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore … multi-sport athlete in high school, participating in football, basketball, baseball, and track and field ... qualified for the Texas 3A regionals in the 110-meter hurdles and the 4x100 and 4x200 relays as a junior … recognized for work in the classroom as a first team Academic All-State honoree by the THSCA as a senior … was Texas Tech’s first verbal commit of the 2022 class … consensus three-star prospect by the likes of 247Sports, Rivals and ESPN … CHOSE TEXAS TECH OVER: Air Force, Army, Hawaii, South Dakota State and UTSA.
