2022 SEASON (SUPER SENIOR)
Put together his best collegiate season in 2022 to wrap his Red Raider career … earned the starting nod at weakside linebacker in preseason camp and easily became one of Texas Tech’s most-reliable defenders … started in all 13 games at linebacker, making him one of only four players on the defensive side of the ball to do so … was the Red Raiders’ second-leading tackler, with a career-high 91 stops (60 solo), including 4.5 for a loss and 2.5 sacks … added a pass breakup and an interception in pass coverage as well as three quarterback hurries … nearly tripled his career total in tackles leading into the season … had at least two tackles in all 13 games and had five or more stops in 11 of those contests … reached double digits for tackles in two different games, a feat he had not accomplished prior to this season … his totals for both tackles for loss and sacks were both career bests as well … credited with playing in 850 defensive snaps by Pro Football Focus as well as an additional 162 as part of special teams … joined Dadrion Taylor-Demerson as the only non-offensive linemen to play in more than 1,000 combined snaps on the year … similar to his entire career, called on regularly to be able to move from inside the box to contribute in coverage as well … targeted 36 times in the passing game with 27 of those going for completions … caused 12 total pressures in the backfield according to PFF … was a regular member of the punt return, punt coverage and field goal block units and occasionally contributed to the kickoff coverage team early in the year … IN NCAA RANKINGS: recorded 82 of his tackles against power-five foes, which ranked tied for 30th in the FBS … IN BIG 12 RANKINGS: closed the season ranked sixth in the league for solo tackles (60) and 11th for total tackles and total tackles per game (7.0) … was fifth in the conference with 54 solo tackles versus power-five opponents and eighth for total tackles in those games … SEASON HIGHLIGHTS: opened the year with two tackles in the season-opening win over Murray State (9/3), which included one stop for a loss … followed with seven tackles, including a key sack, in the overtime win over Houston (9/10) … sack, the second of his career at the time, came on a key 3rd-and-4th play late in the third quarter that pushed Houston back 15 yards and led to a missed field goal … followed with five tackles in each of the next two games in the non-conference finale at N.C. State (9/17) and the Big 12 opener versus Texas (9/24) … combined for 10 stops in next two games as well with four at Kansas State (10/1) and six at Oklahoma State (10/8) … recorded seven tackles, including a shared sack, in the win over West Virginia (10/22) … sack came on a 4th-and-10 play where he and Tyree Wilson found WVU quarterback JT Daniels for an eight-yard loss before halftime … reached double digits in tackles for the first time in his career versus Baylor (10/29) with 12 stops … came close to hitting that mark again the next week at TCU (11/5) before finishing with nine stops … notched five tackles and his first career interception in the win over Kansas (11/12) … interception gave the Red Raiders the ball back with 13 seconds remaining before halftime, allowing the offense to complete a deep pass to Trey Cleveland extend its lead to 27-21 thanks to a Trey Wolff 51-yard field goal … credited with six tackles at Iowa State (11/19), including one for a loss, which came on a first-down play on Iowa State’s final drive in the fourth quarter … closed the regular season with a career-high 14 tackles in the overtime victory over Oklahoma (11/26) … marked the second-highest single game tackle total by a Red Raider on the season, trailing only Krishon Merriweather’s 17 at Oklahoma State … performance included his final sack of the season, which came in the first quarter … nearly reached double digits again in the TaxAct Texas Bowl win over Ole Miss (12/28), finishing with nine tackles, a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry … shared a tackle with Dadrion Taylor-Demerson on a key fourth down stop against the Rebels midway through the fourth quarter that gave the Red Raiders the ball back in plus territory … pass breakup, meanwhile, came on a 3rd-and-18 play midway through the third quarter that forced an Ole Miss punt.
2021 SEASON (SENIOR)
Once again a key contributor on defense and on special teams as a senior … appeared in 10 games with one start, which came at the SPUR position against West Virginia (10/2) … missed three-straight games during front half of Big 12 play due to injury … made 10 tackles on the year to go along with a forced fumble … had two tackles in four games overall … credited with playing in 62 snaps defensively, grading out at 72.4 according to Pro Football Focus … ranked fourth on the team with 147 snaps via special teams … contributed to pretty much every special teams unit, including kickoff return (25), kickoff coverage (44), punt return (32), punt coverage (40) and field goal block (6) … SEASON HIGHLIGHTS: started the season with two tackles in the come-from-behind win over Houston (9/4) … also had a pair of tackles at Texas (9/25), at Oklahoma (10/30) and in the win over Iowa State (11/13) … notched one tackle at West Virginia as well as the AutoZone Liberty Bowl versus Mississippi State (12/28) … stripped a Mississippi State completion midway through the fourth quarter, a fumble that was recovered by teammate DaMarcus Fields as one of three takeaways in the win … was the first forced fumble of his career … SENIOR DECISION: elected to return to the Red Raiders for final year of eligibility as granted by the NCAA for the 2020 COVID-19 shortened season.
2020 SEAS0N (JUNIOR)
Proved to be among the most-versatile players on the roster as a junior after playing multiple linebacker spots and the Spur position … appeared in all 10 games with one start coming in the season opener versus Houston Baptist … totaled 15 tackles on the year to go along with a sack (solo), a quarterback hurry and a pass breakup … all 15 of his tackles came over five games … was also a regular on special teams … ranked tied for second on the team with four special teams tackles … shared the team high with four tackles on kickoff coverage alone … SEASON HIGHLIGHTS: made two tackles in his first career start versus Houston Baptist (9/12) where he also had a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry … registered a career-high four tackles at Kansas State (10/3) … matched that career high with four tackles again a few weeks later against Oklahoma (10/31) … combined for five tackles over the final two games of the season with three at Oklahoma State (11/28) and two versus Kansas (12/5) … performance at Oklahoma State included his first career sack.
2019 SEASON (SOPHOMORE)
Appeared in 10 games during his first season as a Red Raider … heavily utilized on Texas Tech’s special teams units and saw time at linebacker as well … recorded a total of six tackles to go along with a quarterback hurry … SEASON HIGHLIGHTS … posted a season-high three tackles in his Red Raider debut against Montana State (8/31) … performance also included his lone quarterback hurry of the season … totaled one additional tackle against UTEP (9/7) and two more tackles in the Big 12 opener at Oklahoma (9/28).
PRIOR TO TEXAS TECH
Played in one season at Kilgore Junior College prior to transferring to Texas Tech ... appeared in six games during his lone season at Kilgore ... recorded 22 tackles (13 solo) on the season while also recovering a fumble ... battled various injuries throughout the year for a Kilgore program that finished 10-2 overall ... signed with Texas Tech late in the spring semester ... CHOSE TEXAS TECH OVER: North Texas.
HIGH SCHOOL
Attended Ryan High School in Denton, Texas … was named as the 2017 District 5-5A Co-Defensive MVP and an All-State selection by the Associated Press for his efforts at the linebacker position … totaled an impressive 183 tackles, including 13 for a loss with four sacks during his senior campaign … also recovered three fumbles and blocked a field goal as a senior … earned All-District honors in 2016 as a defensive back ... posted 99 tackles, including three for a loss, while picking off one pass as a junior ... also forced one fumble and recovered another ... recorded 282 total tackles and six pass deflections in 29 games on Ryan’s varsity squad.
