Played in eight games during true freshman season at Tyler Junior College โฆ completed 59.8 percent of his passes overall after finishing 52-of-87 overall โฆ threw for 624 yards and two touchdowns on the season โฆ began seeing additional playing time late in the season โฆ finished 14-of-19 for 187 yards at Trinity Valley and then 21-of-32 for 254 yards and a touchdown versus New Mexico Military Institute โฆ completed over 65 percent of his passes in both of those games โฆ also ended the year with 15 rush attempts for 14 yards and a touchdown โฆ rushing total included a season-high 42 yard scamper against Cisco Junior College.

Attended Levelland High School in nearby Levelland, Texas โฆ recorded one of the most impressive seasons in Texas high school football history as a senior โฆ threw for 5,617 yards and 77 touchdowns as a senior, snapping the single-season records for a quarterback from the state of Texas โฆ helped lead Levelland to the third round of the Class 4A playoffs for the first time since 2007 and then the fourth round, marking the programโs farthest postseason run in 66 years โฆ named the Built Ford Tough Texas High School Player of the Year for Class 4A โฆ garnered Class 4A Offensive Player of the Year honors by the Texas Associated Press Editors โฆ organization also named him to the All-State team as well โฆ was a finalist for the Mr. Texas Football Award โฆ also a member of the schoolโs basketball and baseball programs.
