2024 SEASON (SENIOR)

2023 SEASON (JUNIOR)
An immediate impact in the secondary during first season as a Red Raider … appeared in 11 games with 10 starts, starting the season at the “star” position before moving to a deep safety late in the year … missed both the Oregon and K-State games due to injury … finished as the Red Raiders’ second-leading tackler with 78 stops (54 solo), including 4.5 for a loss … one of three Red Raiders with multiple interceptions with two picks on the year to go with five pass breakups … notched at least four tackles in all 11 games played and had seven or more in six of those contests … was the highest-graded defensive player on the roster by Pro Football Focus at 79.4 for the year … outlet graded him higher, in particular, for rush defense (82.4) and his tackling ability (92.7), both of which led the team … credited with playing in 669 total defensive snaps, which ranked fourth on the team … also inserted for 64 snaps on special teams, seeing time on every unit throughout the season … SEASON HIGHLIGHTS: made his Red Raider debut with four tackles, including a career-high 1.5 for a loss, against Wyoming (9/2) … injured late in that contest, forcing him to miss the Oregon game the next week … returned for the non-conference finale against Tarleton State (9/16), recording six tackles and a pair of pass breakups … opened Big 12 play a week later with seven tackles at West Virginia (9/23) … had a tackle for loss in each of the next two games, finishing with nine stops versus Houston (9/3) and six at Baylor (10/7) … came back from his second game away due to injury to record five stops and a pass breakup at BYU (10/21) and then nine tackles in the Thursday night victory over TCU (11/2) … followed with a career-high 11 stops at Kansas (11/11), his first career outing with double-digit tackles … combined for 36 tackles over the final four games thanks to seven against UCF (11/18) and nine at Texas (11/24) … notched his second career interception and first as a Red Raider against the Knights after stepping in front of a Jordan Plumlee pass attempt late in the third quarter … interception came on UCF’s first play of the drive and set up a Texas Tech field goal by Gino Garcia … made his final interception of the season in the Radiant Technologies Independence Bowl against Cal (12/16), essentially sealing the victory with 5:52 remaining in the fourth quarter … the Red Raiders started the ensuing drive at the Cal 20 yard line, setting up a Gino Garcia field goal to take a 34-14 lead … added five tackles in the win, including one for a loss earlier in the third quarter … AWARDS AND HONORS: recognized as an honorable mention All-Big 12 selection by the conference coaches.
PRIOR TO TEXAS TECH

Christopher Julien Baskerville … went by Julien as a child before he started using C.J., which developed upon starting to play sports ... born in Houston to parents Skip and Sharon Baskerville on the date of their wedding anniversary … his family moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex when his father was hired as an associate superintendent at Birdville ISD after his sophomore year in high school ... Skip is also a student at Texas Tech, enrolling in a distance learning program to pursue a doctorate in educational leadership ... both he and C.J. enrolled at Tech January 2023 ... mother Sharon is also in the education sector ... is the youngest child of three; has two older brothers, Christian, the oldest, and Chandler ... working toward a finance degree at Texas Tech.
