- Emerged late in the season as a top pass rusher with several notable performances in Big 12 play … appeared in 11 games overall with one start, which came in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl versus Arkansas … did not see any game action in the first two games of the season against Abilene Christian (8/31) and at Washington State (9/7).Â
- Finished with nine tackles, which included 3.5 for a loss, all sacks … added a quarterback hurry and forced fumble late in the season … made tackles in five different games against Arizona (10/5), TCU (10/26), Oklahoma State (11/23), West Virginia (11/30) and Arkansas (12/27) in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl … recorded a sack in three of those contests.Â
- On the four plays that created his 3.5 sacks, three of those came on third down that forced either a punt or a field goal … in the lone exception, the sack caused a fumble recovery and takeaway … the Red Raiders followed with a touchdown on their next drive following his sacks versus TCU and West Virginia - three in total.Â
- Credited with 130 defensive snaps by Pro Football Focus and an additional 60 snaps on special teams, primary on either kickoff return or punt return … bulk of snaps defensively (103) came over the final four games of the season … awarded a 71.7 overall grade by PFF after creating 13 pressures with four sacks, two quarterback hits and seven hurries.Â
- Made one of the biggest plays in the Red Raiders’ win at Arizona (10/5) with a late fourth-quarter sack for his lone tackle … found Arizona quarterback Noah Fifita for an eight-yard loss on 3rd-and-9 to force the Wildcats into a timeout and then a field goal … the Red Raiders recovered the ensuing onside kick to hold on for a 28-22 victory.Â
- Shared a sack at TCU (10/26) with Travon McAlpine, which came on 3rd-and-17 early in the second quarter, forcing a TCU punt deep in its own territory … the Red Raiders scored three plays later on a Tahj Brooks four-yard touchdown run following a 44-yard reception to Caleb Douglas ... recorded two tackles in the win at Oklahoma State (11/23), including one that came as part of kickoff coverage.Â
- Set a new career high with four tackles in the regular-season finale against West Virginia (11/30) … total included a career-high 2.0 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks as well as his first career forced fumble … first sack ended West Virginia’s opening drive of the second quarter, forcing a punt followed by a Tahj Brooks two-yard touchdown run for a 13-3 lead … later sacked quarterback Garret Greene again just before halftime, knocking the ball out for Brenden Jordan to recover in West Virginia territory … similar to earlier in the game, Brooks found the end zone from two yards out on the next drive to push Texas Tech’s lead to 35-3 at the break … credited with a career-high 40 defensive snaps in the rout.Â
- Earned his first career start in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl matchup versus Arkansas (12/27) … made one tackle and created one quarterback hurry over his 26 defensive snaps, the second-highest total of his career.
2023 SEASON (REDSHIRT SOPHOMORE)
- Appeared in all 13 games during first season as a Red Raider … considered one of Texas Tech’s top special teams performers throughout the season.
- Credited with 212 total snaps on special teams by Pro Football Focus, easily the most on the team … had 29 more special teams snaps than the next Red Raider, Henry Teeter, with 183 overall … member of the kickoff return, kickoff coverage, punt return and punt coverage teams.
- Inserted on defense in three different games against Tarleton State (9/16) and Houston (9/3) as well as at Baylor (10/7) … recorded five tackles overall with two at West Virginia (9/23) and one stop versus Tarleton, Houston and Baylor … lone tackle against Tarleton went for a two-yard sack, the first tackle for loss or sack of his career.
PRIOR TO TEXAS TECH
- Transferred to Texas Tech prior to the 2023 spring season after two seasons at Oregon … arrived with three years of eligibility remaining as a Red Raider after playing in 15 games as a Duck.
- Bounced between both sides of the ball during his Oregon tenure, starting as an outside linebacker as a true freshman before transitioning to the tight end room as a sophomore … returned to his natural position as an outside linebacker with the Red Raiders.
- Credited with five tackles at Oregon, which all came during his 2021 true freshman season … previously played the 2021 season as an outside linebacker under former defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter, who was Oregon’s defensive coordinator that season.
- 2022 SEASON (SOPHOMORE): redshirt season … appeared in only one game, which came against Eastern Washington (9/10) … entered the transfer portal immediately following the season.
- 2021 SEASON (FRESHMAN): saw action in all 14 games as a true freshman, primarily on special teams … credited with playing in 190 snaps with 184 coming on special teams and the other six on defense … totaled five tackles overall, including a career-high three versus Stony Brook (9/18) … other two tackles came against Arizona (9/25) and Utah (11/20) during Pac-12 play.
HIGH SCHOOL
- Attended Mansfield Timberview High School in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex … three-year letterwinner for the Wolves.
- Helped push Timberview to an 8-1 record and a Class 5A playoff appearance as a senior … was an honorable mention All-State honoree that season by the Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA) and was tabbed the District 5-5A Division II Defensive Player of the Year … named a finalist for Sports Illustrated All-America honors … compiled 12.5 sacks and 15 quarterback hurries as a senior to also earn second team All-Area honors by Dallas Morning News.
- Previously recorded 33 tackles, 11.0 tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks to go along with a pair of forced fumbles as a junior in 2019 … finished with a tackle for loss in each of the final six games of that season.
- Recorded 31 tackles and 5.0 sacks as a sophomore in 2018 to go along with two fumble recoveries.
- A track and field standout as well, competing in the hurdles and triple jump … crowned the District 5-5A champion in the 110-meter hurdles as a sophomore … was a regional qualifier throughout prep career. Â
- Considered a consensus three-star prospect by the likes of ESPN, 247Sports and Rivals as part of the 2021 class … listed as the No. 25 weakside defensive end in his class by Rivals and the No. 61 recruit from the state of Texas … ranked as the No. 30 edge rusher in the country and the No. 70 prospect from Texas by 247Sports … top-five weakside defensive end in the state of Texas by both Rivals and 247Sports, ranking at No. 4 by both publications … rated at No. 28 in the Dallas Morning News’ top-50 area recruits.
- Received an offer from Texas Tech coming out of high school before signing with Oregon … chose the Ducks over other offers from the likes of Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, Colorado, Kansas, Kansas State, Minnesota, Utah and Washington State, among others.
