- Will have the opportunity during senior season to become the fourth Red Raider in program history to throw for 10,000 career passing yards, joining a prestigious list that includes Graham Harrell (15,793), Kliff Kingsbury (12,429) and Patrick Mahomes II (11,252).
- Likely to move up the career chart for passing yards in the first few weeks of the 2025 season as he trails the likes of Zebbie Lethridge (6,789), Billy Joe Tolliver (6,756) and B.J. Symons (6,378) by less than 600 yards.

2024 SEASON (JUNIOR)
- Began the season as Texas Tech’s starting quarterback for the first time in his career … started in 12 of 13 games, missing only the AutoZone Liberty Bowl matchup versus Arkansas to close the season … became the first Red Raider quarterback to start all 12 regular-season games since Patrick Mahomes II’s final season in 2016.
- AWARDS AND HONORS: preseason candidate on the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award watch lists … recognized as the Davey O’Brien Great 8 Quarterback of the Week twice following wins over North Texas (Sept. 16) and then Oklahoma State (Nov. 26) … tabbed the Pro Football Focus Offensive Player of the Week and the Earl Campbell Award Player of the Week following the Oklahoma State victory as well.
- Completed 63.3 percent of his passes on the season (295-of-466), throwing for 3,335 passing yards and 27 touchdowns to only eight interceptions … marked the 17th time in school history a Red Raider had thrown for at least 3,000 yards in a season and the first time since Nic Shimonek in 2017.
- Became the first Red Raider quarterback in school history to throw for 3,000 yards with eight or fewer interceptions … his eight interceptions on the season marked the fewest for a Red Raider starting quarterback (min. 10 starts) since Zebbie Lethridge only had four (on 261 attempts) in 1997 … one of 14 quarterbacks nationally and one of only two in the Big 12 Conference to throw for at least 3,000 yards with eight fewer interceptions.
- Among the nation’s leaders, averaging 277.9 passing yards per game on a 139.1 efficiency … threw for at least 200 yards in 11 of his 12 starts with the lone exception being at TCU where he departed at halftime due to injury … recorded four 300-yard outings, including two that capped Big 12 play … averaged 262.3 passing yards per game against conference opponents to help push the Red Raiders to six Big 12 victories for the first time since 2008.
- Responsible for 28 total touchdowns (27 passing, 1 rushing) for a Red Raider offense that ranked ninth in the FBS for scoring at 37.6 points per game … threw for at least one touchdown pass in 10 of 12 games and had multiple touchdown passes in nine different contests … combined for 17 touchdown passes during Big 12 play against only five interceptions.
- More than 40 percent of his completions - 131 in total - went for at least 10 yards … had 47 passing completions go for 20 yards with 21 at 30 yards and eight of 40 or more yards … boasted two completions of 50 or more yards with a long of 70 early in the season to Coy Eakin against North Texas.
- Credited with 872 offensive snaps by Pro Football Focus, which ranked third on the team … easily marked his most offensive snaps in a season thus far in his career … ranked second on the team with a 79.0 overall offensive grade by PFF … publication gave him a 74.2 adjusted completion percentage which accounts for drops that were on target.
- IN NCAA RANKINGS: finished the season seventh in the FBS for completions per game (24.58), eighth for passing yards per game (277.9) and 16th for both total passing yards (3,335) and passing touchdowns (27) … was also ninth for total passing attempts (466), 11th for completions (295), 28th for points responsible for per game (14.2) and 35th for total points responsible for (170) … ranked 18th in the FBS for most passing completions of 10 yards (131) as well as tied for 19th for completions of both 20 yards (47) and 30 yards (21) … powered a team that ranked fourth in the country for points per game (37.6) and ninth for both passing offense (296.7) and total offense per game (462.7).
- IN BIG 12 RANKINGS: was second in the league for completions per game, third for both passing yards per game and passing touchdowns as well as fourth for total passing yards and completion percentage (.633) as well as fifth for passing efficiency (139.1) … ended the season sixth in he conference for points responsible for per game and seventh for total points responsible for … was fifth overall for passing yards of at least 10 yards and 20 yards but moved up to a tie for third for passes of at least 30 yards … directed a Red Raider offense that led the league in scoring and total offense and also ranked third for passing yards per game.
- SEASON HIGHLIGHTS:
- Abilene Christian (8/31): threw for at least 300 yards for the third time in his career in the season-opening win over the Wildcats … completed 30-of-42 passes for 378 yards and a career-high five touchdowns … marked the first time a Red Raider quarterback threw for five touchdowns in a game since Alan Bowman had the same amount in the 2020 Big 12 opener against Texas … three of his five touchdown passes came on completions of 35 yards or longer, finding Coy Eakin for 35 yards in the first quarter, Jalin Conyers for 36 yards before halftime and then Josh Kelly for 35 yards midway through the third quarter … converted a 3rd-and-11 in overtime, hitting Caleb Douglas on a 14-yard touchdown strike for what ended up being the game-winner.
- at Washington State (9/7): followed with another 300-yard outing after completing 34-of-58 passes for 323 yards and a touchdown versus the Cougars … lone touchdown was a 12-yard pass to Cameron Dickey with 9:21 remaining in regulation … threw two interceptions in the loss, one of only two multi-interception games on the season.
- North Texas (9/14): needed only 15 completions to record 273 passing yards and four touchdowns in the rout over the Mean Green … combined for five touchdowns in the win with his four through the air and then his lone rushing score on the season … found the end zone via his legs on a 10-yard keeper with 9:30 remaining in the second quarter that pushed Texas Tech’s lead to 38-7 at the time … recorded explosive passing plays of 70, 45 and 42 yards, marking his most of 40 or more yards in his career … found Coy Eakin on a 70-yard touchdown strike to open the second quarter, marking the longest completion of his career … was 15-of-19 overall for a 79.0 completion percentage before being benched for second half due to the large lead … his four touchdown passes pushed his season total to 10 through three games, the most for a Red Raider over that stretch since Patrick Mahomes II in 2016.
- Arizona State (9/21): led the Red Raiders to a win in their Big 12 opener after completing 24-of-44 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns … both touchdown passes came on Texas Tech’s first two drives as he found Johncarlos Miller II from 5 yards out and then Josh Kelly on a 20-yard strike.
- Cincinnati (9/28): pushed the Red Raiders to back-to-back home wins to start Big 12 play after completing 19-of-29 passes for 251 yards and two touchdowns … had his best rushing performance of the season as well, carrying only three times for 46 yards, including a career-long 26 yard scamper … rush attempt set up a 49-yard touchdown pass to Coy Eakin three plays later to tie the game at 17-17 in the second quarter … was the second touchdown pass to Eakin in the win as the two connected on a 7-yard strike late in the first quarter.
- at Arizona (10/5): powered the Red Raiders to their first 3-0 start in Big 12 play since 2013 with an efficient performance, featuring 17-of-29 on completions for 214 yards … marked his fourth-consecutive game without an interception as the Red Raiders were 4-0 during that stretch … set up a Gino Garcia 41-yard field goal to take a 21-19 lead late in the fourth quarter with a 32-yard completion to Caleb Douglas … previously set up another Garcia field quarter just before halftime after hitting Douglas on three-consecutive passes for 2, 57 and 19 yards on a drive that started with only 31 seconds remaining.
- Baylor (10/19): threw for three touchdowns as part of 33-of-49 passes for 286 yards in Homecoming contest against the Bears … saw his streak of 158-consecutive pass attempts without an interception end in the loss … found Caleb Douglas for two of his three touchdown passes as the two connected from 12 yards out in the first quarter and then from 7 yards late in the fourth quarter.
- at TCU (10/26): departed the game at halftime due to injury, finishing only 13-of-22 for 137 yards … was the second time on the year to not have a passing touchdown … his three interceptions through the first eight games of the season were the fewest by a Red Raider starting quarterback since Zebbie Lethridge had the same amount in 1997.
- at Iowa State (11/2): returned to the field the next week to lead the Red Raiders to their first road win over a top-10 team since Texas Tech shocked No. 1 Oklahoma midway through the 2011 season … completed 21-of-40 passes for 237 yards and two touchdowns in the win … both touchdown passes went to Josh Kelly, beginning with a 35-yard strike to cap Texas Tech’s opening drive and then another from 19 yard out late in the third quarter … accurate to start the game after completing 12 of his fist 13 passes to push the Red Raiders to an early 10-3 lead … was 4-of-7 for 42 yards to lead the Red Raiders on the game-winning drive with less than two minutes remaining, which included a key 8-yard pass to Kelly to convert 4th-and-7 … the Red Raiders capped the drive with a Tahj Brooks 5-yard touchdown run with 20 seconds remaining.
- Colorado (11/09): finished 24-of-40 for 275 yards and two touchdowns against the Buffaloes with both scoring tosses going to Jalin Conyers … hit Conyers on a 17-yard scoring strike to cap Texas Tech’s opening drive and then connected with him again on a 21-yard touchdown to cut the deficit to 34-27 with 2:12 remaining in regulation.
- at Oklahoma State (11/23): closed the regular season with back-to-back 300-yard performances, beginning with a career-high 401 yard passing outing in the win over the Cowboys … was the first 400-yard game by a Red Raider since Tyler Shough threw for 436 yards in the 2022 regular-season finale against Oklahoma … threw for four touchdowns in the win, marking the third time on the season with four of more scoring tosses … in doing so, became the first Red Raider quarterback since Nic Shimonek in 2017 to record four or more touchdown passes three times in a single season … his 37 completions marked a season high … got off to a hot start, completing 14-of-18 passes in first quarter alone for 135 yards and two touchdowns, which went to Caleb Douglas (9 yards) and Mason Tharp (8 yards) … ended the game 6-of-7 for 65 yards to lead the Red Raiders to a season-high 56 points, their most in a Big 12 road game since defeating Kansas, 65-19, in 2017.
- West Virginia (11/30): led the Red Raiders to their sixth Big 12 victory after completing 28-of-41 passes for 359 yards and two touchdowns in a rout of the Mountaineers … was his fourth 300-yard game of the season and sixth of his career … helped the Red Raiders eclipse the 50-point mark for a second-straight Big 12 game for the first time since 2003 … the Red Raiders also scored 29 points in the second quarter, their most all-time in a Big 12 game … had touchdown passes to Mason Tharp (1 yard) in the second quarter and 31 yards to Caleb Douglas shortly after halftime before departing the game midway through the fourth quarter.
- vs. Arkansas (12/27): did not play in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl versus the Razorbacks after undergoing shoulder surgery immediately after the regular season … the timing of the surgery was intended to speed up his recovery to have him back for summer workouts.
- Solidified himself as Texas Tech’s quarterback of the future by the end of his sophomore season … appeared in 10 games overall with eight starts behind center, all in Big 12 play or in the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl … began the season as Texas Tech’s backup quarterback … became Texas Tech’s starter by the second game during Big 12 play against Houston.
- Battled through a shoulder injury throughout the majority of the season, which was suffered soon after entering the game for Tyler Shough against West Virginia … limited in practice throughout the end of September through October due to the injury … was closer to 100 percent health-wise late in Big 12 play following Texas Tech’s open date.
- Still managed to complete 182-of-293 passes on the season (62.1 percent) for 1,757 yards and 15 touchdowns … also rushed 46 times for three yards but found the end zone four times via his legs … led the team with 1,760 yards of total offense … averaged 175.7 passing yards per game, a clip that increased to 190.9 yards in games he started …

- SEASON HIGHLIGHTS:
- Tarleton State (9/16): made his season debut off the bench versus Tarleton State to close non-conference play, finishing 8-of-13 overall for 72 yards and two touchdowns … both touchdowns came in the second half with a 15-yard strike to Myles Price with 3:50 remaining in the third quarter and then a 5-yard toss to Jordan Brown to start the final quarter.
- at West Virginia (9/23): called upon to replace Shough in the first half of the Big 12 opener against West Virginia, finishing 13-of-37 for 158 yards and a touchdown … was injured on his first drive but fought through to give the Red Raiders a chance to tie the game late in the fourth quarter … pulled the Red Raiders to a 13-10 deficit with a 6-yard touchdown pass to Jerand Bradley to start the fourth quarter.
- Houston (9/30): made his first start of the season in the win over the Cougars, completing 14-of-22 passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns … performance came despite missing the entire week of practice recovering from an injury … both touchdown passes came in key moments as the Red Raiders tied the game at 21-21 on a 25-yard strike to Loic Fouonji and then pushed their lead to double digits (42-28) in the fourth quarter on an 11-yard toss to Myles Price.
- at Baylor (10/7): efficient again a week later at Baylor, leading the Red Raiders to another victory on 19-of-26 passing for 180 yards and a career-high three touchdowns at the time … found Coy Eakin on a 13-yard touchdown strike on the opening drive of the game before connecting with Baylor Cupp on a pair of touchdowns in the second and third quarters … accounted for four touchdowns overall in the blowout win thanks to a 10-yard scamper to score the Red Raiders’ final touchdown late in regulation.
- Kansas State (10/14): departed the game at halftime due to injury after completing 14-of-21 passes for 125 yards while also rushing six times for eight yards and a touchdown … found the end zone on a one-yard keeper early in the second quarter for Texas Tech’s first touchdown … the Red Raiders were only down 17-14 at the half when he departed the game, which ultimately ended with a 38-21 K-State victory … injury forced him to miss the road trip to BYU (10/21) a week later.
- TCU (11/2): returned after the open date with possibly his best start of the season in the win over TCU … completed a season-high 28 passes (of 36) for 282 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for another score … overall health improved due to the open week, allowing for more passing opportunities … both touchdowns came via explosive plays, the first on a 25-yard strike to Myles Price late in the second quarter and then the other via a 44-yard bomb to a speedy Drae McCray early in the final frame … opened the game with a nine-yard rushing touchdown to give the Red Raiders an early 7-0 lead … marked his third-consecutive game with a rushing touchdown.
- at Kansas (11/11): accurate again in the win in Lawrence, finishing 19-of-25 for 176 yards, which included 63 yards alone during a memorable final drive … powered a 63-yard scoring drive with only 26 seconds remaining in regulation to set up the game-winning 30 yard field goal from Gino Garcia … started drive with 16-yard pass to Jerand Bradley followed by a 14-yard strike to Myles Price over the middle and a Red Raider timeout past midfield … capped drive with beautiful throw to Bradley again down the right side for 33-yard gain to set up Garcia’s game-winner.
- UCF (11/18): led the Red Raiders to another win a week later with 256 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns on 21-of-34 attempts … helped bring the Red Raiders back from a 14-0 deficit with a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter, connecting with Drae McCray on a 15-yard touchdown strike and then Mason Tharp on a 19-yard touchdown up the seam.
- at Texas (11/24): rushed for his final touchdown in a tough regular-season finale, finishing 19-of-36 for 88 passing yards overall … touchdown came on a two-yard carry late in the first quarter.
- vs. California (12/16): bounced back to garner Offensive Player of the Game honors in the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl win over Cal … matched his career high at the time with three touchdown passes in the victory as part of 27-of-43 attempts for 259 yards … all three touchdown passes came in the first half en route to pushing the Red Raiders to their third-consecutive bowl victory … the win pushed the Red Raiders to a 5-1 record on the season in games he started and finished.
- 2022 SEASON (REDSHIRT FRESHMAN)
- Displayed the potential that made him the highest-rated quarterback signee in program history … appeared in nine games overall with four starts behind center … four starts all came during Big 12 play over a stretch against Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Baylor and TCU … missed the final three games of the regular season due to injury … in games he didn’t start, was often utilized with special packages to compliment his athleticism.
- Completed 96-of-169 passes on the season (56.8 percent) for 1,117 yards and seven touchdowns … part of a Texas Tech offense that became only the second FBS program since 1996 to have three different quarterbacks throw for at least 1,000 yards in a season … averaged 233.8 passing yards in games started and 285.3 passing yards per game in starts where he finished the game.
- Recorded two 300-yard games on the season, the first of his career … of his 96 completions, 48 went for at least 10 yards, while 14 were for 20 or more yards … also had six completions for at least 30 yards, two for 40 yards and one for 50 yards.

- at North Carolina State (9/17): called off the bench in Texas Tech’s first road game of the season with 85 passing yards on 4-of-7 passing to go along with two rushes for 20 yards … entered more in a wide receiver role the previous week against Houston (9/10) and then against Texas (9/24) for only one snap.
- at Oklahoma State (10/8): earned the first start of his career against the Cowboys in what was one of the most-impressive starting debuts in recent memory … completed 39-of-62 yards for 379 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing 17 times for 53 yards and another score … marked the 10th time since 1999 where a Red Raider has thrown for 300 yards in his first career start … became only the eighth Texas Tech freshman to start at quarterback during the Big 12 era, joining the likes of Kliff Kingsbury (1999), Seth Doege (2009), Baker Mayfield (2013), Davis Webb (2013), Patrick Mahomes II (2014), Alan Bowman (2018) and former teammate Donovan Smith (2021) … his 379 passing yards were the third-most for a Red Raider making his starting debut against a conference opponent during the Big 12 era … his 62 passing attempts marked the second-highest total for a Red Raider in a starting debut during the Big 12 era … also marked the most attempts for an FBS freshman making his starting debut since Jared Goff had 64 on Aug. 31, 2013, in Cal’s season-opening loss to Northwestern … only the second Red Raider in Big 12 era and only freshman quarterback to make his first career start against a ranked opponent … led the Red Raiders on an 11-play, 75-yard scoring drive to start the game, capping it with a 27-yard touchdown pass to Jerand Bradley … later added a nine-yard touchdown run of his own late in the first quarter, marking his first time to find the end zone on the ground …
- West Virginia (10/22): followed with 325 passing yards and two touchdowns two weeks later in the win over the Mountaineers … completed 28-of-45 passes en route to becoming the eighth Red Raider in the Big 12 era to throw for at least 300 yards in each of his first two career starts … joined a list of prominent quarterbacks such as Nic Shimonek (2017), Davis Webb (2013), Baker Mayfield (2013), Taylor Potts (2009), Graham Harrell (2006), Cody Hodges (2005) and Sonny Cumbie (2004) …
- Baylor (10/29): limited to only 11-of-34 passing for 152 yards and a touchdown versus the Bears … cut Baylor’s lead to only seven points with an eight-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter, his second and final rushing touchdown of the year.
- at TCU (11/5): suffered an injury early in his start at TCU (11/5), departing early in the second quarter … was 7-for-10 for 79 yards and a touchdown to that point, which included a 47-yard scoring strike over the middle to Bradley.
- vs. Ole Miss (12/28): did not return from injury until the TaxAct Texas Bowl win against the Rebels … part of one of the most creative scoring plays likely in college football that season after motioning as a receiver to under center, only for the snap to go through his legs to Tyler Shough for a rushing touchdown early in the win.
2021 SEASON (FRESHMAN)
- Redshirt season … appeared in two games overall as a backup quarterback at Kansas (10/16) and again against Oklahoma State (11/20) … completed 1-of-3 passes for no yards and rushed twice for 15 yards against the Cowboys … member of the dress roster throughout the entire season.
HIGH SCHOOL
- Attended Eastland High School in his hometown of Eastland, Texas … one of the top quarterbacks in the country throughout prep career … totaled more than 8,800 passing yards during his three seasons to go along with 84 passing touchdowns and only 15 interceptions … considered an accurate passer with a roughly 64 percent completion rate … proved to be a threat on the ground as well with more than 1,200 rushing yards and 24 rushing touchdowns.
- One of 11 quarterbacks nominated for the 2020 National High School Quarterback of the Year Award that is presented by the National Quarterback Club … semifinalist for the 2020 Mr. Texas Football award presented by the Texas Bowl and Dave Campbell’s Texas Football … was a preseason candidate for High School All-America honors from Sports Illustrated.
- Named MVP for District 5-3A his senior season after throwing for 3,613 yards, 37 touchdowns and only six interceptions, while adding 893 yards and 19 touchdowns on the ground … averaged 6.9 yards per carry while also completing 68.6 percent of his passes … nearly led Eastland to 100 points in a game his senior season after accounting for 10 total touchdowns (5 passing, 5 rushing) in a 91-71 victory over Panhandle.
- Tabbed the District 3-3A Division I Offensive MVP as both a sophomore and junior … became one of the top young quarterbacks in the state in 2018 after throwing for 2,435 yards and 18 touchdowns with only four interceptions … followed with 2,766 passing yards and 29 touchdowns with only five interceptions a year later as a junior.
- Helped lead Eastland to the state quarterfinal round his senior year … the Mavericks made the playoffs in each of his three seasons with a regional finals appearance in 2018.
- Member of Eastland’s basketball program as well … was a first team All-District 6-3A honoree on the hardwood his junior year … did not play as a senior after enrolling at Texas Tech to start the spring semester.
