- Put together possibly his best season thus far during third season as a Red Raider … started in all 13 games for the Red Raiders after moving from the “star” position to the boundary safety spot … was one of eight Red Raiders on the defensive side of the ball to start in all 14 games and one of 15 players on the team to do so.
- Recorded 59 tackles from the backend of the secondary (38 solo), which was three more than his career total (56) entering the year … notched 2.0 tackles for loss - both in Texas Tech’s final two games of the season - to go along with a pass breakup, an interception and a forced fumble … both of his takeaways came against Big 12 opponents.
- Made at least one tackle in 13 of 14 games overall with three or more stops in 11 different contests, including the final nine games to end the year … shared the team high for tackles in one game, which came in the regular-season finale at West Virginia … targeted 34 times in the passing game per Pro Football Focus with 21 leading to receptions, a 61.8 percentage … ranked fifth on the team for reception percentage among players targeted at least 10 times and led the safety room.
- Credited with 794 defensive snaps by Pro Football Focus, which ranked third on the team behind only fellow defensive backs Cole Wisniewski (808) and Brice Pollock (797) … easily marked the most defensive snaps in a season in his career thus far … received his highest grades by the publication over his career … awarded an 82.3 overall grade that was boosted by a 81.4 grade in rush defense, an 81.0 grade in coverage and a 78.8 grade as a tackler.
- Had only one tackle in each of the first two games of the season, blowout wins versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff (8/30) and Kent State (9/6) … closed non-conference play with five stops in the win over Oregon State (9/13).
- Snapped his career high at the time in the Big 12 opener at Utah (9/20) with seven tackles … later broke that mark with nine stops in the Capital One Orange Bowl versus Oregon (1/1) … would have three or more tackles in every remaining Big 12 contest outside the win at Houston (10/4) … did not have a tackle versus the Cougars but managed to record his first career interception, which stopped a Houston drive late in the third quarter … was one of three takeaways for the Red Raiders in the road win.
- Followed with six tackles each of the next two games versus Kansas (10/11) and at Arizona State (10/18) … halted Kansas’ second drive of the game, punching out a fumble on the first play that was recovered by David Bailey … his first career forced fumble gave the Red Raiders the ball at the Kansas 36-yard line, setting up an eventual touchdown pass to Terrance Carter Jr. for an early 15-0 lead.
- Closed the month of October with three tackles in the shutout win over Oklahoma State (10/25) … matched that total the next week at Kansas State (11/1) before posting five tackles against both BYU (11/8) and UCF (11/15) to close the home slate … regular-season win over BYU also featured his lone pass breakup of the season … closed the regular season with four tackles in another shutout win, this time at West Virginia (11/29).
- Made a key tackle for loss in the Edward Jones Big 12 Championship versus BYU (12/6), stopping a 3rd-and-2 attempt for a two-yard loss … the Cougars turned the ball over on the following play, giving the Red Raiders the ball back for an eventual Stone Harrington field goal to take a 31-7 lead with 7:03 remaining in the fourth quarter.
- Got in the backfield again versus Oregon, stopping a run play in the red zone for a one-yard loss … was part of a career-high nine tackles versus the Ducks, which led the secondary and finished tied for third on the team.
2024 SEASON (SOPHOMORE)
- Continued to be a key contributor for the Red Raiders in the secondary as a sophomore … appeared in all 13 games while making two starts at Texas Tech’s “star” position … two starts came late in the season at Iowa State and in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl versus Arkansas.
- Ranked sixth on the team with 36 tackles (18 solo) to go along with three pass breakups in the secondary … tackle total included 2.5 for a loss and one shared sack … recorded at least one tackle in all 13 games and had multiple stops in nine different contests … bulk of tackles – 28 to be exact – came during Big 12 play with multiple stops in seven of nine games overall.
- Contributed to two takeaways with a pair of fumble recoveries on the year, which came during Big 12 play in wins at Arizona and versus West Virginia … marked the first time to directly impact the game via a takeaway this early in his career … added three pass breakups in the secondary as well.
- Targeted 33 times in the passing game by opponents per Pro Football Focus with 19 of those resulting in completions … his 57.7 reception percentage against him marked the lowest on the team among Red Raiders who were targeted at least 10 times … publication credited him with appearing in 381 defensive snaps, which was ninth overall on the team … added an additional 100 snaps on special teams, primarily as part of the kickoff return and punt coverage units.
- Combined for five tackles over the three non-conference contests with three versus Abilene Christian (8/31) and one at both Washington State (9/7) and versus North Texas (9/14).
- Opened Big 12 play with four tackles and a pass breakup in the win over Arizona State (9/21) followed by a season-high five stops against Cincinnati (9/28) … recovered his first career fumble a week later at Arizona (10/5) as part of two tackles … fumble recovery gave the Red Raiders the ball back at the Arizona 25-yard line, setting up a Tahj Brooks 32-yard touchdown run with 1:53 remaining in regulation to take a 28-19 lead.
- Returned from open date with three tackles against Baylor (10/19) and four at TCU (10/26), including 1.0 tackles for loss and a shared sack … got to TCU quarterback Josh Hoover at the same time as Charles Esters III to record a seven-yard sack midway through the first quarter to force a punt after disrupting a 3rd-and-9 play … marked the first sack of his career to that point … later combined with Chapman Lewis to halt a TCU fourth-down attempt by blowing up rushing attempt for a two-yard loss midway through the second quarter.
- Began the month of November with three tackles in the win at Iowa State (11/2) followed by one stop against both Colorado (11/9) and Oklahoma State (11/23) … lone tackle versus the Buffaloes went for a three-yard loss late in the third quarter.
- Closed the regular season by matching his season high with five tackles against West Virginia (11/30) to go along with a fumble recovery … his second fumble recovery of the year came on a Terrell Tilmon strip sack late in the second quarter, giving the Red Raiders the ball back in plus territory to eventually push their lead to 35-3 at halftime following a Tahj Brooks two-yard touchdown run.
- Made his second start of the season in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl versus Arkansas (12/27), finishing with three tackles, including one for a loss, as well as a career-high two pass breakups.
2023 SEASON (FRESHMAN)
- Became a key contributor for the Red Raiders in the secondary as only a true freshman … appeared in all 13 games with five starts from Texas Tech’s “star” position … one of three true freshmen to start in a game on the season, joining linebacker Miquel Dingle Jr. and quarterback Jake Strong … was the only true freshman from that group to make multiple starts … made three of his five starts late during Big 12 play against the likes of TCU, UCF and Texas.
- Recorded 20 tackles overall (16 solo), including 1.0 for a loss, to go along with a quarterback hurry and pass breakup … led all true freshmen on the team in tackles.
- Credited with appearing in 329 defensive snaps by Pro Football Focus … saw sporadic action on special teams as well as part of the kickoff coverage, punt return and field goal block units.
- Made the first start of his career in his collegiate debut at Wyoming (9/2) … was in the starting lineup again the following week versus Oregon (9/9), finishing with two tackles … closed non-conference play with four stops the next week in the win over Tarleton State (9/16).
- Utilized heavily on defense beginning midway through Big 12 play with Kansas State (10/14) … had a season-high six stops against the Wildcats to go along with his first career tackle for loss and pass breakup … tackle for loss came early in the second quarter, eventually leading to a K-State 3-and-out drive.
- Came close to matching that season high for stops with five tackles to go along with a quarterback hurry in the win over UCF (11/18) … credited with playing a season-high 65 defensive snaps against the Knights … hurried quarterback John Rhys Plumlee into an incompletion on UCF’s 1st-and-goal play just before halftime as the Red Raiders kept the Knights off the board to keep a 14-14 tie intact … also had one stop at BYU (10/21) earlier in conference play and two in the regular-season finale at Texas (11/24).
HIGH SCHOOL
- Attended Mansfield High School in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex … considered one of the top defensive backs in the country coming out of high school … three-year varsity letterwinner where he helped lead Mansfield to its first playoff appearance since 2017 as a senior … regarded as one of the top tackling safeties in the DFW area.
- Recorded 81 tackles as a senior alone, including four for a loss, to go along with two interceptions and eight pass breakups in the secondary … ultimately closed his prep career with 141 total tackles (101 solo), averaging 6.4 tackles per game … selected to play in the 2023 Polynesian Bowl following a successful senior season.
- Missed most of his junior season with an injury … tabbed the District 11-6A Sophomore Defensive Player of the Year in 2020 after a strong varsity debut … served as Mansfield’s place kicker and punter during prep career in addition to his role in the secondary.
- Standout for the track and field programs as one of the top sprinters in the state … clocked at a sub-11.0 time in the 100-meter dash during prep career.
- Listed as a four-star prospect by 247Sports and ESPN and a three-star signee by Rivals and ON3.com … member of the ESPN300 at No. 224 overall nationally … ranked as high as the No. 13 safety nationally by ESPN and No. 35 in the state of Texas by both ESPN and 247Sports … tabbed the No. 14 safety in the country by 247Sports … considered a Rivals Texas 100 prospect as the No. 92 recruit in the state … ranked as the No. 32 recruit in the DFW area by the Dallas Morning News.
