2025 SEASON (SOPHOMORE)
- Put together one of the top rushing seasons by a Red Raider in school history as a sophomore … all the while, combined with J’Koby Williams to form one of the most-dynamic rushing duos in the country while appearing in all 14 games, including nine starts.
- Became the ninth Red Raider in program history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season after totaling 1,124 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on 209 carries … marked the 14th different 1,000-yard rushing season by a Red Raider in history and the third in as many years … the Red Raiders previously had consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons by Tahj Brooks in 2023-24, marking the first time in program history to have a 1,000-yard rusher in three-straight seasons … finished 12th on the Texas Tech single-season rushing chart despite recording the second-fewest carries in school history for a 1,000-yard rusher, trailing only the 188 for DeAndre Washington in 2014.
- Paired with Williams to mark the first time in school history the Red Raiders have boasted multiple 800-yard rushers in the same season … the Red Raiders were one of only four power conference schools to have multiple running backs with at least 800 rushing yards … the two helped push Texas Tech to 2,560 rushing yards on the season as a team, its most since joining the Big 12 in 1996 … the Red Raiders also averaged 182.9 rushing yards per game as a team, their highest average since 2015 and the fourth-highest clip of the Big 12 era.
- Notched only two 100-yard games on the season, the fewest for a 1,000-yard rusher in program history … consistent, though, rushing for at least 50 yards in 10 of 14 games and hitting the 70-yard mark six times, including in four of the final five contests … carried at least 10 times in 12 of 14 games overall with the two exceptions being eight attempts in an early rout of Kent State and nine rushes at Arizona State.
- Able to contribute in the passing game as well with 25 catches for 224 yards and two touchdowns … only the third Red Raider in program history to rush for at least 1,000 yards in a season and also have 200 or more receiving yards, joining the likes of Byron Hanspard (1995) and DeAndre Washington (2014-15) … combined for 16 touchdowns altogether, which ranked among the national leaders.
- Combined for 1,357 all-purpose yards, which ranked second on the team behind only fellow running back J’Koby Williams (1,525) … averaged an impressive 96.9 all-purpose yards per game … marked only the seventh time in program history and the first time since 2015 that Texas Tech had two players with at least 1,300 all-purpose yards in the same season … was the first time, however, that both players were part of the running back room … the Red Raiders were one of two teams nationally (Florida Atlantic) to boast multiple players with 1,300 all-purpose yards on the season but was the lone team to do so with both being running backs.
- Credited with 560 offensive snaps by Pro Football Focus, which led the running backs room and ranked 11th on the team … received a 76.0 overall grade by the publication, which included an 81.3 grade as a rusher … totaled 722 yards after contact, per PFF, after forcing 51 missed tackles on the season … originally slated to have a bigger role on special teams to start the season but limited to being part of the kickoff return unit only for three games, normally in key moments.
- IN TEXAS TECH RECORD BOOK: placed his name among the school single-season leaders, ranking tied for seventh with 14 rushing touchdowns, while his 1,128 rushing yards was the 12th-highest total in program history … rushed for 263 yards in the win over Kansas, which ranked fifth in Texas Tech single-game history … performance only trailed the 287 yards Byron Hanspard had versus Duke in 1996 as well as his 272 yards that same year versus Oklahoma State … James Gray also ranks second all-time with 280 yards in the 1989 All-America Bowl versus Duke, while James Hadnot is just ahead in fourth with 268 rushing yards in a 1978 contest versus New Mexico.
- AWARDS AND HONORS: an All-Big 12 second team selection by the conference coaches, marking the third-consecutive year a Red Raider running back was named to the first or second team … tabbed to the All-Big 12 first team by the Associated Press as well as the All-Texas first team by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football … one of 10 semifinalists for the Doak Walker Award, which is presented to the nation’s top running back … received a slew of in-season weekly awards for his game performance, the bulk of which came after his career outing versus Kansas (10/11) … named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Player of the Week, the Doak Walker National Running Back of the Week and the Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week for his performance … member of the National Team of the Week compiled by Pro Football Focus that same week … later recognized as the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week and the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week again following Texas Tech’s win over BYU (11/8).
- IN NCAA RANKINGS: among the top players in the country at finding the end zone, ending the year ranked tied for ninth nationally for total touchdowns (16) and tied for 20th for rushing touchdowns (14) … his 1,124 rushing yards on the ground ranked 24th in the FBS overall … also ranked 43rd for rushing yards per game (80.3) … ranked among the most-explosive backs in college football with 12 rushes of at least 20 yards, which was tied for 14th nationally.
- IN BIG 12 RANKINGS: was the league leader for both total touchdowns (16) and rushing touchdowns (14) and ranked third for total rushing yards (1,124), fourth for rushing yards per game (80.3), seventh for total points scored (98) as well as eighth for scoring per game (7.0) and all-purpose yards per game (96.9) … his 12 rushes of at least 20 yards also shared the league high, while his 30 attempts of 10 or more yards was third overall.
