- Redshirt season … earned the backup quarterback role early in the season despite arriving on campus only the previous January … appeared in four games overall with one start, which came in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl versus Arkansas.
- Completed 35-of-57 passes overall (61.4 percent) for 471 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing 17 times for 49 yards and two additional scores … regarded as a dual-threat option behind center with his ability to get yards with his legs …
- Made his collegiate debut in the second half of Texas Tech’s rout of North Texas (9/14), completing 5-of-7 passes for 70 yards while also rushing twice for 11 yards … completed his first career pass for 32 yards, hitting fellow true freshman Micah Hudson over the middle to jumpstart a quick touchdown drive.
- Most significant action of the regular season came in the second half at TCU (10/26) where he relieved an injured Behren Morton … led the Red Raiders to touchdowns on each of their first two drives after entering the game … finished 10-of-15 overall for 121 yards and a touchdown, while rushing eight times for 16 yards and another score … found Coy Eakin on a 13-yard fade for his first career touchdown pass with 12:21 remaining in the third quarter to cap Texas Tech’s opening drive … followed by keeping on an RPO for a four-yard touchdown run on the Red Raiders’ next drive to take a 31-14 lead midway through the third quarter.
- Limited from there in order to preserve redshirt season, appearing only late in the win over West Virginia (11/30) with one incomplete pass and two rush attempts for eight yards and a touchdown … scored with 3:36 remaining in the fourth quarter on a four-yard carry for Texas Tech’s final touchdown of the 52-15 rout …
- Replaced Morton again to earn the start against Arkansas (12/27) in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl, finishing 20-of-34 overall for 280 yards and a touchdown … rushed five times in the loss for 14 yards … became the eighth true freshman in school history to start a game at quarterback, joining the likes of Ron Reeves (1978), Aaron Keesee (1984), Baker Mayfield (2013), Davis Webb (2013), Patrick Mahomes II (2014), Alan Bowman (2018) and Jake Strong (2023) … was the fourth freshman and only the second true freshman to ever start a bowl game, joining the likes of Zebbie Lethridge (1994), Webb and Donovan Smith (2021) … his 280 passing yards were the fourth-highest total for a true freshman making his first career start, trailing only Webb (415 versus Iowa State), Mayfield (413 at SMU) and Bowman (282 versus Lamar).

- Attended Hutto High School in the Austin area … prolific quarterback who totaled more than 8,700 passing yards and 84 touchdowns during prep career … powered one of the nation’s top high school offenses, accounting for an additional 2,344 rushing yards and 37 touchdowns on the ground as a dual-threat option … responsible for 121 touchdowns over his four varsity seasons.
- Finished as the state’s leading passer as a senior after completing 61.3 percent of his passes for 3,901 yards and 35 touchdowns, while rushing for an additional 1,077 yards and 19 touchdowns … named one of 10 finalists for the Mr. Texas Football High School Player of the Year Award presented by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football … was a finalist alongside his future wide receiver target in Micah Hudson … tabbed the District 12-6A Co-MVP following strong close to his prep career.
- Previously totaled 2,763 passing yards and 30 touchdowns to only five interceptions his junior season, while also rushing for 828 yards and nine touchdowns on 120 attempts … led a Hutto offense that averaged 35.8 points per game, earning him a share of District 12-6A Offensive MVP accolades … competed in one of the state’s top 6A districts alongside future teammate Tyson Turner … was an honorable mention All-State selection by the Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA).
- Collected second team All-District 25-6A honors as only a sophomore after throwing for 1,704 yards and 17 touchdowns, while also rushing for 419 yards and eight more scores … made his debut as a freshman with 358 passing yards and two touchdowns to go with 20 rushing yards on the ground and another touchdown.
- Finished as a finalist at the prestigious Elite 11 competition … a consensus four-star prospect by the likes of Rivals, 247Sports, ESPN and On3 … ranked as high as No. 13 nationally among quarterbacks by both Rivals and On3 as well as 14th by 247Sports and 15th by ESPN … consensus top-100 athlete in the state of Texas by all four publications and a top-300 prospect nationally by Rivals, 247Sports and On3 … rated as the No. 200 player in the country by Rivals and the No. 34 prospect in the state … was No. 202 overall by On3 and No. 38 among Texas recruits.
